Need some Google Jedi help

by masterhylian

I am trying to help my parents cut their cords and setting them up with Chromecast with Google TV. I can NOT figure out how to stop it from recommending things on apps they don't have. Am I missing it or is there no way to do this? I've unselected the apps in every place I can find. They keep downloading apps they don't have accounts for. Any help would be amazing! Thanks.

Consider setting up the CCGTV device with a custom launcher, like Wolf. Doing that will bypass all the ads and only display the apps you choose. This principle is available to other streaming devices like Fire Stick, TiVo, Dynalink, On and various android boxes. Techdoctor UK, on YouTube, is an excellent source of how to procedures. 👍

I second the custom launcher idea if you already have the Chromecast. That way, you can just make the apps whose subscriptions you have available and hide all the others. This should also help with the banner & recommended ads.

I think the latest update to Android TV boxes added non-avoidable ads in the default launcher they come with, so, another reason this might be a good idea. (Got an Nvidia Shield running Android TV launcher and they added the update with ads. MEH.)

Those advertisements are, to the best of my knowledge, unavoidable. Don't forget that Google's main source of income is advertising.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll have them try a few of the different options and see what they prefer. Its nothing that's a deal break as she is coming off of a Firestick and like 90% of that stuff she saw was paid. Just trying to make it as easy on them as possible.

Do you have a little time to teach them how stuff works. Or get them a Roku.
