Android TV STB with HDMI Video Passthrough?

by superstaritpro

I'd like to replace my Xbox 1 with an Android TV box. I do a ton of casting and while I enjoy my Google TV, I also have a very cheap satellite package with locals and a few other channels I watch.

I am looking for a setup like I have with the XBox 1 where Android TV is an overlay over the satellite and I can go back and forth with a single HDMI input on my receiver.

Googled a lot and found some from 2014-2016 that are no longer current. Most of the posts I find are talking about audio passthrough and I would like full HDMI passthrough.

Anyone know a box that will do that? I was kind of surprised the NVidia Shield Pro didn't have that.

The only Android TV box I know having two HDMI ports where one of the ports passes-through to the TV when the box is OFF is called Mecool Now, it's a certified Android TV device with a camera and microphone built-in but it's not Netflix certified, it features the latest Amlogic S905X4 SoC, 2 GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, one USB 3.0 port, an 10/100 ethernet port and Android 10.

You can get a 10% discount with the code mecoolbox at checkout.

Might be able to use a USB capture card as a camera input and view your stb thru the camera app. Although it will probably look like crap

I wanted exactly what you wanted, and the only device i could find was the JBL Link Bar, it has 3 HDMI inputs as well as the output and can overlay google assistant over the screen while watching other inputs, plus you can switch between inputs with voice commands. It has the added benefit of also being a pretty decent sound bar as well..

Reviews online are not very favourable.. however, a lot are from when it originally launched and it's had a couple of updates that fixed issues. It's not the most powerful TV box and doesn't have huge storage which isn't extendable. But if you just intend to use it as a google speaker, streamer, light gaming I've found it works fine for these.

The old Google TV boxes used to have this. 😔
