Are there Android TV that support AVC HIGH 10 and HEVC Format Range hardware decoding?

Are there Smart TV that support AVC HIGH 10 and HEVC Format Range hardware decoding?

My current cheap Android TV plays basic AVC and HEVC fine with hardware decoding (I used MX Player to check if HW is possible), however If I try watching video with codecs mentioned in the title my smart tv uses software decoding and is not able to decode them in real time (I get half the framerate).

I am looking for tv that can hardware decode those codes.

What is the cheapest way to add more storage to Chromecast with Google TV?

What are the cheapest things you can use to add more storage? I've used up all the internal storage pretty quickly with apps and need more storage to install more apps.

I don't want to spend more or as much to get additional storage as I did for the Chromecast itself.

Apps or services that integrate into Live Channels?

I'm aware of Pluto, Haystack, and Xumo integrating into Live Channels (and Sling and Peacock look to be set up for it at some point) but is there is a list of services or apps that integrate in fully?

Besides the title question, as a follow-up, is there a live channels-like service that integrates with more streaming services that is free or has a one-time purchase.

GoogleTV Lagging Out of Sync in 5.1 Surround

I've seen others complaining about this since launch - it still hasn't been addressed. Using the Google TV in 5.1 mode causes a sync lag between the audio and video by a few frames. It's not terribly obvious, but I can't ignore it and pretty much don't use my Google TV anymore because of this issue.

Google - PLEASE fix this.

Watchlist--am I doing it wrong or is it basically useless?

After the latest update my Android TV tried to sell me on the Watchlist function. I was excited because I thought it might be a more utilitarian replacement for ReelGood and JustWatch (or at least a functional version of Watch Next, which I have never gotten to work). But after spending some time adding stuff to it I'm seeing that the row on the Discover screen holds, I think, 50 shows with no way of reordering and no way of getting to the shows beyond 50 that have been added. Is there no way of actually seeing the full Watchlist? And why does every tutorial I read insist there's a button called "Watched It" that I cant find anywhere on Discover? Easily half the things it's recommending are things I've already seen or that I'm caught up on and that button sure seems like it would be useful.

I Hate the Tivo Stream 4k What Should I get Instead?

People say they love the remote but it's so busy with buttons, they are desperate to get you to the tivo pages which suck.

I'd get the Onn because apparently its stock android tv and a side launcher can be installed in a straight forward manner from what I have read but this common complaint that it crashes kind of puts me off. The Onn will work with a hub to give it ethernet and an input for a drive right? How often does this crash in general and do you think the brain trust at Walmart will ever fix it?

Not sure how easy the CCwGTV will take to a new launcher. Feedback on that would be great.

Recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Went with the CCGTV, thank you very much for the advice and feedback, you guys are great!

Updating Android TV to unsupported OS version

It’s my first time using an Android TV device. I have a Mi TV Stick, which I know it’s not one of the best ones out there but it fulfills my demands. I updated it to a newer version but it is still on Android 9. I want to know if there is any way to install Android 10, 11 or the new Google TV software. Thanks.

Vizio TV and Onn Box

After a week trying just about everything I'm reaching out for help. Have three Onn (Walmart) boxes and the boxes all work great. However, with one newer Vizio tv I have it'll say "NO HDMI DETECTED" after a few minutes and especially when changing channels. This happens on any streaming app. Swapped out the box with other Onn boxes..Same issue. For the heck of it, I connected a Roku to the Vizio tv, no problems. It seems like this box does not like this particular TV. Thinking of getting an HDMI to RCA converter to bypass the whole HDMI connection. Anyone know of this has anything to do with the SDR/HDR setting? When I flip channels that SDR thing will pop up. Can't turn it off on the Onn box.

start.ca STB - use after leaving START

greetings!

i am trying to use an IPBS9510 set top box as a generic android TV device, mostly for the Kanopy library streaming app. the device was purchased when i was an iptv subscriber with start.ca (https://www.androidtv-guide.com/pay-tv-provider/start-ca-start-tv).

i am no longer a START customer, and do not have their remote.

i've done a factory reset, but there is still START firmware on the device; after it boots, there is a remote pairing screen (which shows a picture of the START tv remote). i can't figure out a way to get past this pairing screen without a START remote available.

i do know that the device can be controlled with a USB keyboard and/or mouse... i've done that before. it would be totally fine for me if that was my input method -- i just have to get past the remote pairing procedure somehow!

i've tried using a few android universal remote apps on my Samsung phone. if the IPBS9510 is on an ethernet cable, then those apps do see and identify it on the network. however, they ask for a 4-digit code, saying it should be visible on the tv. unfortunately, the pairing screen (fed by HDMI from the STB) does not show the code, so i'm unable to pair.

is there some way to get past the pairing screen using my USB keyboard?

or is there some non-START firmware version which will solve this problem? i've done a lot of searching about that -- the procedure seems clear, but i have been unable to find a firmware image for this device.

...or some other solution anybody here knows about??

thanks in advance for any help you're able to offer... cheers!

I just found out how to set custom ambient mode timeout ("When to start" time of ambient mode).

  1. Just connect with WIFI debugging (enable Developer Mode and enable USB Debugging)
  2. and type `adb shell settings put system screen_off_timeout 60000` (60000ms = 1 minute, u can choose your own time)
  3. It's all :)

Looking for a 4k media streaming device to replace my WD TV Live

Maybe there is a more better fitting sub but didn't find it. Anyway I'm looking for a replacement for my WD TV live as it doesn't support 4k. Else I actually really liked it!

What are my key features? KISS. I absolutely detest all this trying to be smart dlna / media server crap like plex. No, i don't need to transcode anything or try to smart guess subtitles from the internet and somehow remove embedded subs. /rant

WD TV live let me play video files from samba shares as-is while serving all embedded or external subtitles (not just 1 that fits some obscure rules and dropping all other ones).

So it's really simple (one would think):

  • must support 4k HDR (hevc/h.265 at least)
  • must support containers mostly mkv and mp4
  • must support older codecs (h.264 etc)
  • must support samba shares with all types of subtitles (embedded, external, srt, sub,...)
  • all of the above in plug and play style (enter share credentials once and it just works, like wd tv live)

But I fail to find a player that explicitly states this. All seem to be geared around plex and similar "trying to be smart" systems. Even the NV Shield TV according to my research has multiple issue with samba.

What are my options?

Can I play video games from google play on my Google TV (Chromecast)?

I'm a bit hesitant to buying some video games through the google app store because I don't want to only be able to play it on my phone. If I bought some of these retro games I have and play them through Google TV (chromecast)?

I have one last question. Would I be able to play these games through stadia? Thanks! I'm a big retro gamer. I am dying to play many games I grew up with.

Live Channels EPG Issue

I recently purchased an Nvidia Shield, primarily to use with my OTA antenna.

I’m using live channels app, I’m loving the app but am having issues with the EPG populating.

When I go into the guide, some channels are populated, most show “no information”. If select a “no information” channel, then it’s data seems to download.

Is this normal behavior? Having to select the channel in order to see its programming seems to defeat the purpose of having a guide.

For reference I’m in Canada. I haven’t been able to figure out how this EPG even works. Is it downloading from an online source or is it pulling the data ota?

Google TV Setup Without Remote

Hi everyone,

My fiancé and I just moved, and we previously lost the remote for our Google Chromecast with Google TV dongle. Our new wifi requires us to manually add wireless devices using their MAC addresses, but since our Chromecast is not connected to our wifi (and subsequently our Google home app), we cannot access the settings to find said MAC address.

Any troubleshooting ideas? I will cross post in other google TV forums.

Thanks!
