I honestly love the ads on Google TV, because they’re all about TV shows and movies, which is what I use my TV for.
Something tells me Google isn't the type of company that'll let you opt out of ads.

I have a Sony KD55XF8505 Android tv, and i always had a simple homescreen with apps i used. Now suddenly without any warning, my homescreen has Disney+ ads and Prime ads, apps i don't even use?!
I don't want this, and i can't seem to find a way to disable these ads. I already payed enough for my tv, i don't want to see ads when i start it up.
Edit: I got it back to normal, by removing updates from the app "Android tv homescreen", and i disabled auto updates from the google play store. I finally have a clean homescreen, without ads again.
I recently bought a Sony Bravia TV. If I had known what Google TV was going to be like, I NEVER would have bought this TV. So frustrating. Luckily there’s the app page but it’s very annoying that a $1000 TV requires workaround to remove ads.
Hello fellow ad hater.
Go to Settings -> Apps -> Android TV Home (or Google TV Home) and uninstall updates. Then go to the Play Store and then switch off automatic updates in settings. While you'll miss out on updates of other apps, it's a price with paying. Hoping someone finds a better solution.
I use nextdns -dns adblocking.

Go in to play store.. find aps on this device (Picture top right corner.) Lokate android tv home app. Uninstall. Deactivate auto update.
Google Play -> Apps -> Android TV Home -> Uninstall
The basic home app comes bundled with ads for disney+ and other things. Not particularly for or against this but I don't need to see that on my home screen everyday. You're welcome.
I have pi-hole installed on my network. In theory that should get rid of the ads.
