I got a Sony Android TV recently, and would like to get a non-IR remote for it. Are these available anywhere?

I'd prefer it be something other than a Shield remote, as we have a Shield, and lose it's remote all the time because it's so small.

From what I understand Plex can only stream from another server. Can Kodi do the same?

I think there's no button for this on my Sony TV remote (correct me if there is), and mouse and keyboard that I physically connected probably can't open it either - unless there is a secret key combination for this. How to open the context menu?

So I've been using the Philips "The One" TV (55pus7304/12) for a few months now with Androit TV and i love it. The TV is amazing, 4k, HDR+, what ever floats your boat (apart from oled lol).

To get to the point, the tv uses the Ambilight feature from Philips as it has built in LED stripes at the back of the tv. If the TV is turned off, you can turn on the leds with the remote but only with a handfull of preset colors.

Sooo since Ambilights are LEDs and is able to produce almost any color you want, i was curious if there's maybe an App for Android TV where you can control and customize the color/brightnes (maybe timer) of the LED stripes.

So far I havent found anything on the Play Store yet and the Philips customer service was less helpfull.

I'm not interested in any alternative launchers. I would like to create a row just for my news apps for example, is that possible? Is there an app that gives you a "home screen channel" that lets you add a bunch of app shortcuts?

Hi I got a mi box s today and it has 8.1 installed but I've heard they're a lot of bugs with os 9 so I'm worried if I should update.

When I connect a gamepad, the OS decides to put stuff like Home Screen, Apps etc. on the buttons. How to prevent that?

To make smart YouTube tv as the default app one needs to uninstall bundled youtube using adb by:

"adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.youtube.tv"

And now when YouTube is used with Google assistant, one can set the default app.(just disabling the app from settings doesn't work)

How can I automate a screen capture and remotely view the image?

Edit: I may have been unclear, I want to be able to do that when I am not home, to check what is playing on the TV, so it needs to be an app, or a script, that I can run on my LAN or Internet.

Hi, my newly bought mi box 4k is restarting abruptly. this happens only on the first start of the day. After the first start, in about 5 minutes the box will restart. After that it works fine for the whole day.

I replaced it with another thinking it to be a hardware fault , but its the same.

I cannot get the TV to give a background to any subtitle style. I've tried configuring a custom style but neither the default nor my custom style have the requested transparent black background. Is this just a bug in their android app or is it my TV specifically the app doesn't like?

I have a Xiaomi Mibox and sound is PCM STEREO, and this seems to be a general issue on this device: what I'd like to know is if it's only a device issue or a global AndroidTV issue.

I felt like sharing my experience with a first generation xiaomi mi box.

I bought it in late 2016 for about 65 euros from aliexpress and I've been using it (almost daily) ever since. There have been a couple problems along the way, i remember some update that broke the ntfs/exfat support but it was resolved quite quickly and a couple other things.

I'm sometimes reading negative things and my experience has been really positive. For every thing that i couldn't do there has ALWAYS been a workaround.

I use it with a ton of different media on kodi that reads everything, i use netflix, prime video using the cast function (and before that i used it with a sideloaded app) there are many possibilities with it and i really couldn't have been happier. It's a brilliant little machine and after 4 years it never gave me a serious problem.

Of course i always used it in 1080p, of course i factory reset it a couple of times but i have (for a minimal price years ago) a smart tv that is superior to the modern smart tvs (in terms of possibilities) that i have tried.

So that's that. Let me know what you think.

Hello, I have been having problems with my TV, since almost three months chromecast stop working after a while, I have to shut down and reboot the thing for it to work properly. The TV doesn't report the app crashing or anything, is just that the icon dissapears from the apps in my phone, and the youtube linked TV icon also goes away.

I have a TCL 42 inch TV, android is updated, and all apps are up to date as well. Any tips?

I started using the screensaver options recently and found that after a few days, the tv completely forgets that I have set it to start the screensaver after 15 minutes. When I check the options again, they are set back to “Never”. Does anyone know what could be causing this or is anyone else having this problem? My TV is a Philips 43PUS7334

I really like the Tivo Stream 4K remote but am also considering a new TV that has Android TV built in. Does anyone know if the Tivo remote is Bluetooth and can pair to other Bluetooth compatible TVs or AndroidTV devices, or is is a custom RF to just the Tivo Stream?

I wanted to get a sense of the community. I have 2 shield TV's (2019) and I have 2 MiBox S. The Shields are connected via Ethernet and Mi Box S's connect via WIFI, all with the latest updates on both boxes. I also have 3 Apple TV's (4K) that I go in between as well.

I have noticed specifically on my Shield TV's that some apps, specifically Disney+ and Hallmark (wife loves this one) that I run into tons of errors in streaming. Specifically, Disney+ gives me the dreaded error 83 and I have to turn on and off wifi or most times have to restart. I have found that on my MiBox's and my Apple TV's that I don't get these errors. So I have to think it is a hardware issue and not an app issue.

Is anyone else running into similar issues with the Shields? I am almost to the point of purchasing more MiBox's as I prefer Android TV, but it kills me that a 40 dollar box is giving me a better streaming experience than my expense Shield.
