If anyone still don't know. Google home app has now added the Google TV / Android TV remote. Just click on the device and at the bottom left corner you will see the Open Remote button. But for this you will require Google home app update to 2.46 version Google home app 2.46: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-home/google-home-2-46-1-7-release/google-home-2-46-1-7-android-apk-download/
(Sorry mods if this breaks any rules, feel free to delete)
I’m hoping people might find a little app I’ve made called Hue Shortcuts useful and I’m eager to get some early feedback. It’s totally free with no in-app purchases.
It’s for Android smart TVs/set top boxes to control Philips Hue smart lights. Use the app to create shortcuts to Hue lights/scenes and run them from spare buttons on your remote. For example my Sony TV has never-used buttons for HELP, TELETEXT, Netflix, etc - now they turn lights on or off instead.
Once you set up shortcuts and assign a button you can run them any time the TV is on regardless of what you’re watching. Or create a shortcut to the app UI which just slides out over whatever you’re doing and gives you quick access to run other shortcuts.
Search for Hue Shortcuts in the Play Store on your TV or see the store listing here:

All feedback/ideas/complaints are welcome. I made this for myself but I hope others like it too. Thanks!
I think I may have spotted a gap in the market. AndroidTV now has a live channels app which allows people to watch live tv but none of the marketing leading hardware has a built in tuner or expandable storage. Obviously FireTV and NVidia Shield.
Does anyone know of any hardware that runs Android TV with a tuner and hard drive for storing shows?
Ive seen the Humax Aura but it does not have Netflix!
