I have a Sony A80J which I bought recently.
First thing I did was set it to apps only mode as I don't want full screen sized ads for Apple TV.
It was fine, until last night. The ads have come back despite being in apps only mode. I tried turning apps only mode off, restarting, then turning it back on again, no luck.
How can I get rid of them?
I tried searching and I found talk of sideloading software(?), but I'm not sure about doing that as I don't want to void my warranty

I don't think apps only mode is supposed to get rid of the ad banner. If you don't want any of that you need to set up a 3rd party launcher. Sideloading is a supported function of Android TV so there are no warranty implications.
