CwGTV - No BT volume on HBOMax

I added HBOMax to our basement CwGTV and the paired BT headphones work fine with YYTV and Netflix but not HBOMax. Just no sound. I restarted the CwGTV but still the same result. Any ideas what could cause this and how do I fix it?

Philips Android TV 2021 - Sideloaded portrait apps run correctly orientated (landscape), but will not stretch to lanscape format

Hi, just got my news Philips 43PUS8506 Android TV (2021) and set it up with everything I need. As usual, some of the apps I need had to be sideloaded, but strangely, in contrast to my old Sony Android TV 2015, those apps, on launch, are already oriented correctly but still in portrait mode only using 1/3 of the screen's width.

I tried a whole lot of screen orientation apps (set orientation, etc...), which, with all permissions granted, had no effect. They all claim to be working, but nothing changes... I know they work though since they just do fine on one tablet and my other Android TV...

For me it seems that the OS already has some kind of orientation tool integrated which then prevents other apps to do they're supposed to.

Anyone with a useful hint?

EDIT: Isn't there perhaps a way to change default resolution/orientation directly in the apk?
I unpacked the apk, but don't know where to start looking for settings like this... the AndroidManifest.xml looks completely different to what I find it should look like...

Thx a lot, Eric

FreeviewPlay Terms & Conditions blocking all Freeview-related channels on Panasonic TV (UK)

I picked up a Panasonic Android TV a couple of weeks ago. The apps worked OK at first, but now all the apps related to a Freeview channel (BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4) are unusable.

On startup, they show a screen "FreeviewPlay Accept Terms" saying I need to accept the T&Cs. There are two buttons, Cancel and Terms & Conditions. If I select Terms & Conditions then nothing happens for a bit, then the app exits.

Is this a known issue? Are there workarounds? Or do I just have to hope that the apps get updated to fix this?

How to pair voice/mic philips rc to philips oled706

I own 706 oled, bought another philips remote control that looks similar but has full functionality (YKF474-B001). The trick is to spawn accessory pairing interface that has been stripped from settings in this tv model.

I was able to use tvQuickActions to program whatever button you choose to spawn that pairing screen. As an action use APP -> Settings (hold ok for couple of seconds to choose activity) -> AddAccessoryActivity (com.android.tv.settings.accessories.AddAccessoryActivity).

After finishing the pairing process everything started to work (voice search, google assistant, etc.).

One thing though, while pairing process, after it will initially pair, i had to 'connect' one more time to PHRCL using other remote.

Enjoy!

Sound setting through Optical Output?

Not sure if this is a dumb question or not, I have a Samsung HT-TX52 receiver where you can't adjust bass, treble and miss. Also, it has a few audio modes but none are phenomenal. I recently bought a Hisense U7G and have it set to Optical out.

My question is, is it possible to adjust the sound quality coming out of the TV? Like is there an app I can download that gives me that possibility? I've gone through the sound settings and nothing changes the tone.

I know optical is supposed to be "pure" sound, but since I have no settings on my receiver, I'm hoping there's a way to adjust it before it hits my receiver.

Bravia Android TV OK Button Issues

I have a Sony Bravia x800h and every time I’m on the home screen or apps screen and press the OK/select button it’ll act as if I’m long pressing and bring up the context menu instead of just tapping and opening the app. I can then select open and the app will open fine. Button works fine elsewhere inside of apps. Only affecting home screen and apps screen.

Troubleshooting input lag?

My wife wants to play Nintendo on our TCL 65s434.

I lack knowledge about the minimum requirements to do so, but I installed an emulator app and some games and tried a cheap USB dongle based controller and a cheap bluetooth controller and both are unusable due to the short but instantaneous delay between button presses and game play.

Is there any way to troubleshoot whether this is due to insufficient specs on the TV (so buy a CC etc), compared to lousy controllers (so get a nice one) versus the emulator app I chose at random (so try others)?

Thanks.

Is a Nvidia shield overkill for my use?

The usage I'd be wanting out of any device is basically running Kodi (accessing a shared directory on the network) and VPN+Streaming (outside the US but would like to access stuff like Hulu). From what searching around I've done, it seems that VPN part limits me a bit killing anything that's not running just Android TV with full Play Store access, so Apple TV is out and I believe Google TV is out. The Shield Tube/Pro seem perfect for this, but what seems to be memory issues causing the Tube to freeze and need restarts has me wary of going with that and the Pro seems completely like overkill as I really doubt I'll make use of any gaming features, although I'd never say never. Also, largely due to file sizes I'm unlikely to be playing many 4k files and I don't have any fancy audio setup, would maybe get a sound bar sometime in the near future (currently using a bose speaker as a pseudo sound bar), any 4k video would be from streaming.

Currently I have a HTPC setup with an ~8 year old NUC that's chugging along. It generally runs Kodi fine, but can't handle HVEC, pulseaudio is my nemesis, and it can't even handle streaming sites at this point. I was originally looking at upgrading that, but was thinking an AndroidTV box would be a cheaper solution and I would just demote the HTPC back to basically being a server.

Should the Nvidia Shield (Tube) handle this fine or the Pro is the safer bet? The upscaling is very enticing, but I've been living fine without such a feature. Is there some device I'm completely overlooking? In the EU if that impacts any suggestions.

TCL 65" Class 6-Series 4K QLED Dolby Vision HDR Smart Google TV Nightmare

Hi All,

Making a post with my experience with the TV.

Quick background: I owned a TCL 6 series Roku TV from 2018 and i loved the TV. The picture quality was great, the UI experience was fast and great, HDMI auto switch was good etc...

When the latest “Mini-LED" TV's were announced and BestBuy had them in stock, I immediately sold my 2018 TCL and got the new one for $1200+taxes. I was very excited to get the new TV shipped and then..

I notice that the display glass upfront doesn't line up with the frame, it was not really noticeable until you search for it, I thought it was OK. I ended up using it for 4 months until I couldn't take it anymore.

  1. WIFI and Ethernet will successfully connect but, account setup wont work.

  2. I was unable to update the software EVER.

  3. The display always chose to set to 100% brightness and will always reset with sleep

  4. HDMI auto switch is a nightmare. I had an apple TV and Xbox connected. Lets say I am watching the apple TV and I chose to turn on Xbox. I switch the input to see that the screen has moved -10% to the right with blank space on the left. I had restart the Xbox to fix this issue.

  5. Dolby viston is not good. Its very warm

  6. Blacks on this mini-LED display are the worse. My old 6 series did it much better.

Overall, I am not very happy with thts purchase. To add insult to injury, TCL's support sucked! BestBuy dropped the price to $800 before eventually discontinuing the model. I have contacted the TCL support multiple times to always have my concern forwarded to the "evaluation team" after the same troubleshooting steps every time.

Fed up, I went up to my local best buy (The place where my TV shipped from) and expressed my concerns and how I am now left with a $1420 purchase that I am left with. The manager was very understanding and offered to take the TV back for the full price I pad and offered and exchange. I could buy any TV that they had in stock. I am very happy BestBuy decided to support the customer.

If you face these issues with your TCL mint-LED TV, try to return it. The customer is not a Ouality Assurance tester for a company.

Remap MiBox butoons, specifically I want to Chane function of Prime Video button

Hi everyone!

I Bought a month ago a mi box with a remote that has a Prime Video button wich I want to launch an other app that I use frequently. I want to emphasize, without rooting!! I don't want to lose warranty.

And I already saw the solutions like Button Mapper app. and so I tried to install Tasker (sideload) , but there is a very basic conflict that when I enable USB debugging the USB port stops working, wich prevents operate ADB commands from PC.

I tried even an app called ADB⚡OTG - Android Debug Bridge On The Go. but I'm not sure if it works.

Finally I installed Termux but adb would'nt be installed.

Link to Tasker method: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/jlqqii/remaping_mi_box_s_remote_buttonseg_netflix_prime/

Link to ADB - OTG app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.htetznaing.adbotg&hl=en&gl=US

I guess if I would manage to understand how to attach a PC to the box and overcome the problem with USB debuging then I have all I need.

Thanks and sory for my english..

[Mi Box S] Audio via 3.5mm out of sync

Hi all! I have connected some speakers via the 3.5mm port on the Mi Box S and this works fine.

The Mi Box S keeps outputting audio through hdmi to my tv speakers. I can turn the TV speakers off via the tv's menu, however, im actually happy I can use the (pretty decent) TV-speakers in addition to my speakers, acting like some kind of centerspeaker BUT.... the external speakers and tv speakers are not in sync with eachother creating this annoying echo.

The question:
Is there someway I can get the audio from the speakers (via 3.5mm port) and the audio from my TV (via hdmi) in sync with eachother?
