Does 4K HDR require less transfer speed?!

Hey again!

I have noticed that since i've started watching 4K SDR movies directly from my HDD plugged into my 4K tv, it has often gotten pixelated at some spots in the movie, like when something moves fast in the movie.

I have been watching 4K movies for a long time directly from my 2TB HDD, and it have been working fine. Even with the heavier 4K files (I have played files around 60GB with 4K HDR). Then suddenly one day when I was watching a WEB-DL that was around 7 GB and in 4K SDR, it got pixelated quite often in the movie, even in scenes where it wasn't much movement!

Because of this I have been thinking, is it the SDR that requires faster transfer speed, or doesn't it actually matter??

Because when I have been watching WEB-DL's before but they were 4K HDR files, it worked flawless, (both WEB-DL, WEBRip & BluRay) also without any stuttering and pixelation, I think that is very weird. Because I mean they are not any different from the WEB-DL's I have been watching recently, but they get pixelated quite often anyways now.

So is it something with the SDR that is the problem or should it work? Is it any other problem, because I have been able to watch 4K movies without problems, and then it suddenly won't work as good as before. I wanna say that my HDD use USB 3.0 and the TV port is USB 2.0, but it have been working anyways.

I also wanna note that most 1080p files play fine on the tv, but also 4K files have been working well so why not now?

The media players I have been using is VLC and Nova Video Player. I watch the movies directly from my external 2TB HDD and it have always been working well until now.

The TV I am using is Hitachi 50HAL7351

Watch Dolby Vision/Atmos content in AndroidTv

Hi everyone!

So, my final goal is to watch HDR and Dolby Vision/Atmos content through Stremio (or similar). After long periods of searching, I've concluded that I have two options:

  1. Buy a FireStick 4k (or similar) and install Stremio with some good player (MX Player or JustPlayer)
    or
  2. Buy a Raspberry Pi 4 (or similar), install AndroidTV, then install Stremio with some good player (MX Player or JustPlayer)

I know for sure that Dolby Vision works with the FireStick, but I'm not sure if it will work if I play content with some 3rd party player.

The only reason that I wanted a Raspberry Pi was versatility, because I would've the storage that I wanted and I could install any version of AndroidTV. It would give me more control of everything, but I don't know if Dolby Vision would work if I manually installed AndroidTV.

I'm open to any suggetions to improve this setup!

Let's talk about the $20 Onn android tv from Walmart...

TL;DR THIS THING IS FREAKING AWESOME!

I do not understand people still advocating for Nvidia shields in 2022, I have 3 Shields (2017 version), these devices are buggy, I've faced anything from controller randomly scrolling to device just freezing and refusing to do anything until I unplug and replug it, I then bought a MiBox for $50, this has been my new favorite device, has a remote that actually isn't completely useless like the Shields. Then I bought this $20 Onn device from Walmart, and I have to say just WOW, so far it's been bug free, has a remote that can control tv and device at the same time like the shield can but works better. MORE SNAPPIER THAN A SHIELD & MiBox while navigating the menus and launcher. Probably not as fast while gaming, but if you're not gaming do yourself a favor and buy this thing. I hope this helps someone whose looking to buy a device for streaming.

Mouse and Keyboard do not work on Hisense 4K TV

I am trying to recover data on my broken samsung S10 that has a jet black screen. After much research, the best route was USB to HDMI. I have successfully mirrored my phone onto my Hisense 4K Smart TV. However, devices plugged in such as mouse and keyboard are not working. The TV has two USB slots, I have tried them both. The keyboard and mouse light up so the TV has detected them. But there is no movement on screen when trying to use them. All I need to do is navigate to the settings app to sort out debugging so I am able to transfer files onto my PC. This is becoming increasingly frustrating. Is it a case that only wireless usb devices work?

4K files directly from my external 2TB HDD!?

Hey!

I’m looking to buy an Nvidia Shield TV Pro!

But before that, I wonder if the nvidia shield will handle 4k files well if I play them directly from my 2TB external HDD on a media player like the vlc app, on the nvidia shield. So I DONT mean playing the movie files over a network, I mean connecting my HDD directly into the usb port on the Nvidia shield and then play it on a media player app installed on the Nvidia shield!

If it can handle 4k files well, then I also wonder how large files it can handle, is there a limit?? I mean, can it handle a 60 gb 4k file with ease directly from my HDD?

Please someone tell me this, because I really want to know before I maybe buy it!

Tale of Two CCw/GTV's

I have two CCw/Google TV "boxes" in my home. One is set up in my bedroom and the other in the living room.

Box A in my bedroom only has Philo in the Live tab. Box B in the living room has both Philo and Pluto TV listed in the live tab.

Otherwise, both boxes are complete mirrors of each other. Same credentials, same apps. Tried forcing updates and rebooting.

What gives? Would like easy access to Pluto in my bedroom. (The app ux sucks)

Chromecast with Google TV questions.

I have two questions regarding the Chromecast with Google TV:

  1. Can I use the Chromecast device as a mobile hotspot for my phone and PC to connect to in order to better cast to it? I am a college student and my school's policy won't allow smart tv devices and laptops/tablets/phones be connected to the same WiFi network. If I were to use the Chromecast as a hotspot, I could connect to said hotspot with my phone or laptop to cast.

  2. With a USB hub, can I have another device go through HDMI into the Chromecast and switch between inputs using the remote? I am using a large monitor instead of a TV, so it would be nice if I could have the sound and video from my Xbox go through the Chromecast. This would let me not have to keep switching sources and I would theoretically be able to use the Bluetooth speaker that's connected to my Chromecast.

Very janky setup, but I'm working with a budget. Any answers or advice would be appreciated!

Looking for a box with good audio

I'm looking for an Android TV box with good audio quality. Besides playing 4K content the main purpose is to use it as a music streamer for Tidal or Spotify. I want to connect it to my receiver using a digital optical cable. Because of that, the NVidea Shield Pro is a no go. I'm now looking at the Beelink GT King Pro and Ugoos UT8 Pro.

The Beelink advertises itself as a Hi-fi machine, but I don't know how the two compare. Ugoos is running a new version of Android, but reviews from februari describe it as buggy. Firmware update might have resolved this?

Does anyone have any advice on these two options? Or many have suggestions for better alternatives? Thanks!

Launcher on Onn Box?

Has anyone recently installed a custom launcher on their Onn Box? I enabled developer options, but there is no option to enable network debugging, only usb debugging. I've installed custom launchers on Nvidia Shields and Firesticks, but can't get anything to disable the stock launcher and enable the custom launcher on the Onn Box. Any help, please?

Is there a way to turn off the screensaver on the Walmart Onn 2K TV stick?

What the title says. I commonly use the tv to play videos in the background while I work on other stuff, but it's annoying to have to tell the screen saver to turn off every 2 hours.
