Ok. I know. This is crazy. I figure with firetv essentially being Android it might be possible. I have a Hisense 55” with android tv and I really don’t like it. It was best picture quality vs the firetv native TVs at the time.

I personally really like firetv but wanted to avoid a second device (which essentially runs the Android tv in hdmi input mode by default)

My ideal would just be to install firetv onto this Android tv.

I know the answer is probably a No but thought I’d ask as this seems like if any group would know it’s here

Sony released an app for some bravia models to integrate the tv into your alexa smart net over a sony tv skill. I could found two versions of the smarthomesettings.apk someone shared from a compatible model.

I tried it on an unsupported model KDL-50W805C by simple sideloading the app, but it won't work. It won't displayed and on the install dialog it was the option to start greyed out.

So i decoded the app with apktool and changed some settings in the manifest that the app is everytime shown,
rebuild and signed it with some debug key. After installing the patched smarthomesettings.apk it shows me the icon for the amazon alexa setup.

The app starts (even in my native language) and wants me to log in to google. But on that screen i stuck. It shows me the dialog to choose an google account, but after choosing it close and goes back to the alexa app where it wants to log in to google. I couldn't find out yet why it stucks there, i tried to update google play services as well google play store but it seems not to affect this problem.

Maybe anyone got an updated version of the smarthomesettings.apk (mine still says "beta" on the launcher icon) it is version 3.4.A.1.10

If someone is interested i can share the patched apk file for testing purposes, maybe its just a problem of my tvs google play framework and it work on other tvs

Help! I love my NVIDIA shield we have on our main living room TV. I really like the Jetsteam box we have in our home theater room. But the wife just made me add a TV in our bedroom so she can watch her lady shows for a half hour per night when she does her treadmill workout. I'm thinking about just getting a cheap Roku express for $24 from Walmart.

Talk me out of it.

Edit: I went ahead and bought a Roku HD Express at Walmart for $24. How can you beat that? It works just fine for this purpose. It's fast enough to flip through channels, and really, we're just putting on a show for a little while, not keeping an eye on three college footballs games on the weekend.

Anyone has any information if they released a Apple TV apk that’s not amazon fire version.

Planning to switch over to AndroidTV (from Fire TV). Looking for a way to continuously play Music Videos with constant display of metadata. Shuffle and playlists would be great to have.

Currently I'm solving this via hand-programmed website, but since it's buggy and laggy, I'd want to go for native Android app. Would anyone be able to recommend a fitting application?

Specifications:

• Video files on local NAS in mp4 format
• Metadata constantly displayed in lower third overlay:
  • Title (first line)
  • Artist (second line, left)
  • Year (second line, right)
  • Album Cover (available as jpg graphic)
• Possibility to specify audio gain per file individually to adjust volume
• Back / forward / play / pause controls
• Crop to fullscreen independent of video format

Recently when watching media from any source I've started getting regular pop up adverts that block the entire screen and need to be clicked on to exit. I thought it might be one specific player, but it happens on all media sources, both APK's and Kodi based streams.

I'm not sure what installed APK is responsible and without completely removing and reinstalling everything, is there a simple way to deal with this?

Would an antivirus solution deal with this, or is there any other method to block unwanted popups, or identify the root cause?

I recently updated Netflix on my Philips Android TV. The version is 7.0.0 build 3021. When it is updated, the audio from my JBL soundbar cuts in and out - it happens maybe every minute or so. When I remove the updates, the audio is perfect. This seems to be an issue with the updated app, but Netflix help is leading the issue towards the JBL soundbar. What do you think is the issue?

I just noticed jack Ryan season 2 is playing in 1080p on my shield. Am I missing a setting ? I know it's in 4k hardware allowing.

Hello, I have a TCL 7006 Android TV and my problem is that after my update to Android 8 the instant power on function stopped working. I have tried doing a factory reset and that didn't help. So I was wondering if anyone here have a fix for it so I don't have to wait 50-60secs every time I start the TV. Thanks!

So I have tried removing the Google play tv and music channels under the customize channels button, disabling the apps, and repeating every time they come back, but they keep coming back and idk why. It also keeps reenabling the YouTube trending channel and the other twitch channels. Does anyone have any tips how to get them to go away and stay gone? It seems like my TV resets all of my customize channels settings quite often

Someone said that with pie the dualshock 4 controllers should be supported. But I'm stuck in pairing mode. Nothing happens. It's the same as on oreo. Has anyone an idea?

Trying to decide which of these TVs I should get. I'll set it up in my bedroom mostly for series/movies, and play some video games occasionally.

I used to own 2017 Shield and sold it because it was overkill for my needs. I just need Android TV with Netflix and Youtube but I miss the possibility to adjust audio video sync manually. I'm using wireless headphones which introduce some lag and also the TV itself seems to have some messed up audio compensation built in so I end up with audio that is BEHIND video by about 150ms. Watchable but noticeable.

Can any of the cheaper options do it? I have Fire Stick 4K now and there are no sync options. Is the option still there on the new Shield?

I recently discovered that you can have multiple Google accounts on an Android TV. I thought I would be able to access my Google Play movie library, but I can't find a way to switch accounts.

I'm looking to replace my aging Roku 3 from 2013 as it seems to have issues with the apps I use. I don't want another Roku because lately they are becoming more like Amazon (a lot of ads) and Apple (apps just "appearing" on a weekly basis -- like they know what is right for me). So, I'm looking at an Android TV box. I've already decided I'm going to get an nVidia Sheild Pro for the theater room, but don't need something that powerful for my living room. Here is what I'm wanting for the living room.

Setup: 2014 Insignia 1080p "dumb" TV and a 3.1 Vizio Soundbar.

Must Have:

1. Ethernet (minimum 10/100 -- Gigabit is a nice bonus)
2. Ability to watch live TV from my HDHomeRun without pixellation / stuttering
3. Plex - ability to direct play full .ts recordings and full DVD rips.
4. Amazon Prime app (I have a few movies / shows I've "purchased" from their service)
5. YouTube (standard app)
6. Pluto TV / Tubi TV / Xumo TV (at least one of these)

Nice to Have:

1. Netflix -- in case I want to subscribe someday.
2. IR Remote (I would like to keep using my Harmony 650)

I would like to keep it under $75. If it is up around $100 I might as well find a used nVidia Sheild.

Any thoughts on some good choices that would meet all my "must have's"?

If I am watching something on Live Channels or my Plex on my Shield TV... and someone rings my doorbell. What happens?

Does the shield automatically switch apps and show me my front door? Does it open up a picture in picture with my front door camera?

I do not use Netflix. Thats my only complaint abou the new Sheild TV's remote.

I do however, have a 3D printer. Does anyone know if it's easy to open up the remote, so that I can replace the button with something else, like a Plex button?

I got an Nvdia Shield TV and I've been running into a lot of apps which I simply can't install on it. Motortrend (previously On Demand) won't install on the Shield, it says it's incompatible. I gather this is a problem with lots of apps.

Of course Ples, Youtube, Amazon Prime Video, and others work fine.

Is there a way to get around this somewhat major limitation? Can anything short of installing another ROM work?

PS. I've messed with the LineageOS based ROMs and can get them to install. Pain to actually use, maybe with a better launcher.

I recently installed the beta pic 9 (2205) with good results but had to play with wifi networking though.

Netflix, KODI works well, but PLEX is now suddenly failing all the regular codec playbacks, but works with HEVC it seems, many other series playback, just stops with the circular pointing arrow, awaiting playback, but it never starts playback. I can press exit and try another episode without problems so i do not think it is a transcoding issue, that normally cause next playback to halt, that i verified too.

Anyone share this problem as i in this beta? Would be great if there is a solution.

Hello, I have this situation where I have an app, it's something like Netflix but our Local where we watch television channels, but the thing is it's also available on mobile devices but something like a cut down version. When I want to watch archive from this app, like news, it restricts me, displaying "archive is only avaible on Android, Apple TV or Android tvs". So my question is, is there a possibility to make an app think it runs on Android TV?
