Hi. Currently using Hal launcher and a sideloaded version of ITV hub and was hoping to find a solution to my orientation issue.

When I launch the app, it's in portrait mode but on its side (so it's full screen) which makes it very difficult to use a mouse and it's on its side and makes movements awkward. When I watch a video, it rotates around to normal landscape and mouse works as normal.

Is there a way to get the app to start in a natural portrait upright mode for ease of use of the mouse but then auto go into landscape when opening a video?

It's quite difficult to explain but I hope this makes somewhat sense!

Edit: Tried newpipe youtube app. It makes playlists easily accessible in app but it is not well optimized for android tv.

I don't use it very often, but turned it on today to watch youtube and it said there is an update to android 9.0 Pie. So I ran the update, it said it would reboot several times, which it did, then it just kept rebooting. 10 times then 20 times then 30 or 40 times and I thought yea this isn't right. It would bring up the chromecast screen then restart then load it up again with a new background then restart, every few seconds. Then eventually it started loading into android TV and then restarting.

Is it broken? Did the android 9.0 break it? Should I do a factory reset or something? I just got this thing a few months ago and its already broken.

Ok, so after I signed my google account t over to 2fa, (password then Yubikey) my Nvidia Shield (Android TV box) wanted me to sign back in to my google account. (on the box, connected to the tv) I put in my google account username and password. Then for the 2fa, it asked for my Yubikey. I inserted my Yubikey into the USB port on the Shield, got the (lit) led and put my finger on the button. Nothing!! Just the little flash type thingy showing the way to insert the yubikey into the USB port. But, again, when I do that, nothing happens. Well, the led comes on and I push the button, as this is how it works on everything else, but it does not recognize that I am inserting the key. Any experience with 2fa on the Nvidia Shield? I have tried my yubikey5NFC and my yubikey5 C. Or some kind of workaround? Thanks. Just had surgery, I am home bound, stuck at home.....Help me fix this. I need my video fix!!!! Thanks to all.

I have the shield pro 2019 and sometimes when I open youtube the playback stops after one sec. Sometimes. The only fix is turn off and on the shield. Does it happens to anyone?

Hi, proud owner of a new Philips 50PUS8804 here. Android Pie runs pretty good on it. One critical functionality for me is the screensaver showing our family photos. This works, but after sometime in standby or after a reboot, the setting is lost and returns to the default "Never show screensaver". This is very annoying. Any ideas here? Thanks

I got my MI BOX S several month ago. It's been working fine except it keeps flickering on my Hisense 4K TV when playing video. It's weird because:

• Only flickering when playing SDR video with "Hardware decoding". Unfortunately most stream service are default to that. HDR video is working fine.
• "Software decoding" works fine.
• UI interfaces works fine.
• Never flickering on my 1080p Asus monitor or RCA TV with any setting.
• At the same time, Roku is working fine on my Hisense TV without flickering.

These solution did not work:

• Change cable.
• Dynamic brightness on/off.
• Dynamic contrast on/off.
• HDMI color range auto/full/limit.
• Output format: Ycbcr 420 444 / RGB / 8 bit 10bit.
• HDMI 2.0 mode: standard/enhanced.

However I do find some workaround I wanna share it here:

• Enable SDR-HDR feature: Since it only flickering on SDR video, force it to HDR mode seems a good solution. However it has a tradeoff, the video color shift a bit with SDR-HDR.
• Reduce resolution to 1080p or lower: It did reduce the frequency of flickering, however it still flickering.
• Tune the "color" setting slide bar on the TV: simply tune the value of "color" up and down stop the flickering completely. But it's not permanent, once reboot the TV or MI BOX the flickering comes back.

Any idea?

Just got a Sony A8G (an Android TV) with a JBL soundbar. I'm using this solely for karaoke in an office break room, and wanted to know the best karaoke app to use?

Can you play call of duty mobile on a android box? It is android and I have the game downloaded. Just don't know how to sign in and navigate around cause the game is based on touch screens and I do have a bluetooth controller.

Ok so im looking at some POS software and the guy said it runs best on android tablets, instead of spending a fortune on small tablets I was wondering if I could just plug Android boxes into a touchscreen? Im unsure as 'Android TV' seems like a different platform to android (excuse my ignorance if Im wrong) as I have a Shield and there are lots of apps you cant download onto it.

Hi guys - I got a Chinese projector to test and it runs a version of android 8.1 i believe - it's actually not too bad and i am a newbie - so not sure if this is relevant or you can help - i managed to install aptoid and already downloaded some apps - the smart youtube tv app works perfect but i can't get the youtube tv app to work - it installs but it brings a playback error - any solutions to that?

Hi all I have a Vodafone branded android tv box and the control has a Netflix button which I don't use. Prior to the latest Android TV update I had this button remapped to another app however since this latest update the button remap hasn't worked.

Now when i go into the button mapper and try to add a custom button the Netflix app opens when I have the app enabled (or the button press isn't recognised if I have the app disabled). I know this button isn't faulty as the light on the box flashes when a button is pressed.

Anyone found a workaround for this problem?

I have a problem that is only affecting some sky channels and the onboard Netflix app.

the audio is fine, but not for speech, so almost like it is missing the centre channel.

My set up is:

SkyQ -> Philips 7300 Series 50PUS738312 ->ARC-> Sony BDVE880 via hdmi

4k firestick->Philips 7300 Series 50PUS738312 ->ARC-> Sony BDVE880 via hdmi

The Sony home cinema system is approx. 5 years old and can handle 5.1 surround sound, but not atmos 7.1 or DD+, so hdmi out is set as multichannel.

In the last week or so, some channels have really muffled speech output, while others sound fine and it is intermittent.

Sky news for example is muffled, but sky movies are fine. SCIFY is fine but bb1 non hd is muffles but bbc1 hd is fine.

If I switch to the TV speakers, then they are fine

The Netflix app on the tv is also muffled, but using Netflix on the fire stick is fine, all audio on the firestick is ok

I have not made any changes to the settings.

Can anyone help please?

I wanted to watch a movie where English is not the native language, and noticed that a lot of movies don't have English subtitles. I contacted Amazon and they said that the English subtitles appear on the phone app but not on the Android TV app, which is strange. They weren't really helpful and said they'll send an update whenever the subtitles are updated. Has anyone else seen this issue?

Hi,i recently bought a Mi box S and when i try to watch Amazon prime with 720p or 1080p the video is just a black screen,when i set the resolution to 480p it works just fine,is there any fix to this problem?
Latest version of amazon prime is installed.

I use the Keyboard/Button mapper app which I sideloaded on my ShieldTv 2017 to map the page up/down buttons on my remote to forward and rewind. Using this app requires making it your default keyboard in settings. Problem is when i do this i don't get any onscreen keyboard when i go try to type something in an apps search box.

Is there anyway I can keep using this app and also have an on screen keyboard display when needed?
