Android TV as bluetooth speaker.

My TCl TV has android 9 built-in. I tried using it as bluetooth speaker but it didn't work. Is there any way to use TV as bluetooth speaker? I know I can cast music but I want an offline solution.

Which Android TV box supports .avi?

I am in the market for an Android TV box that can play my movies from USB - all in the .avi and .mkv formats. Also if it doesn't natively support it - can I just download VLC player on the box and they will play? I have no idea how Android TV boxes work - can you just install any app on them? I'm so lost right now but thanks in advance guys.

OG MiBox (US/Walmart version, but not S) no sound from Disney+

We get virtually no sound from Disney+ on our MiBox. All other apps seem to work fine, and navigation around the ATV OS sounds come through fine.

I say "virtually" because if I turn the volume all the way up on my receiver (like to where it would damage speakers and hearing with normal sound) I can just *barely* make out the audio of whatever is playing on Disney+

Any clues?EDIT: Here's my relevant system equipment:Yamaha RX-A2020 a/v receiver3.1 speaker setup (LCR+sub)Panasonic TC-P65VT20 plasma 1080p... and the MiBox described in the title of this post, connected via HDMI to Yamaha. Yamaha is correctly set up as a 3.1 system right now, so any 5.x or 7.x or whatever sound that is sent (audio passthrough) from the MiBox to the Yamaha will be correctly played (it is in every other app, anyway.)

EDIT2: Finally solved this. It's been bugging me for A couple weeks. Turns out the problem was quite simple. I never use the mi box remote. Instead I use a universal remote. But somehow probably one of my children found the mi box remote and must have adjusted the volume of the me box down to zero. for some reason this affected Disney plus but not the other apps that I use. Simple solution thanks for the ideas anyway.

1.5 speed Netflix on Android tv

I recently got an smart TV running Android OS. It has Netflix pre built and it works fine. I'm one of those weirdos who like to watch TV at 1.5 speed. Don't judge there are literally dozens of us. I sideloaded the normal android Netflix and this lets me change the playback speed but the quality is noticeably worse than the normal android TV version. I also tried sideloading opera and going to the website, once again I can change the playback speed but noticeably worse quality.

Is there anyone else like me who want to watch Netflix on their android TV at 1.5 speed and has figured this out?

Peacock Premium free for three months for Android TV users. Is my Sony Bravia 49X800g which has Android IOS considered an Android TV?

When Peacock TV says three months free for Android TV users does that mean any TV that runs the Android IOS ? I am curious if my Sony TV is included in this deal.

Android 9 for Hisense 50RG

I got a prompt earlier today that there was a system update for my Hisense 50RG (Android TV released in the Australia market in 2018/2019). I was in the middle of something so I told it to remind me later.

It's later now and I can't see to get the option to update again? If I go into the "About/Check for updates" menu it says there is no updates, and it's still on Android 8 and security patch Feb/2019.

Any ideas how to get the dang thing to update?

Cheers!

Xiaomi Mi TV Stick

Just bought a Xiaomi Mi TV Stick, works great easy to setup.

Is there a way to get a full list of all the available downloadable apps in the googleplay store.

What's the reason for this restriction?

it seems to be rather limited with what you can download. Have tried downloader and Aptoide many of the apps say can't be downloaded if using this method.

Also is it possible to hardwire this device, i have tried using the hardwire adaptor from my firestick but doesn't work with the Mi TV stick.

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but I was able to get weather to display on ambient mode

One thing I liked about the Chromecast was that it displays weather on the screensaver/ambient mode but my Android TV devices didn't.

Today I found out that you can enable the weather on Android TV.

When the screen saver is active, go into your Google Home app and find the TV in your list of devices. Tap on it and you should see something at the bottom that says "Personalize ambient mode."

Tap on that and it will bring up a new menu with a temperature option. Mine was already enabled despite not showing anything, so I tapped Hide and then re-enabled it and a few seconds later the weather started showing on my TV.

This may be well known but hopefully it helps someone out!

EDIT: Just to clarify as it doesn't seem to work for everyone, this worked for me on two different Sony Bravia TVs, running at least Android 8 (I think).

Nvidia Shield vs Firestick 4k What’s the $100 difference?

I currently use a Firestick 4k. I mainly side load third party apps for streaming, no gaming. Amazon keeps installing apps on it that take up a lot of valuable space and cannot be uninstalled. Examples are Freetime and now IMDB. I will never use these apps and the space they take up affects the efficiency of my streams. That said, looking at the Nvidia Shield I don’t see much difference in them. I use the mute button a lot and the Shield doesn’t have one. They both have 8 gB of storage and 2 gB of RAM which in my opinion are the two biggest selling points of a streaming device. What’s so great about the Shield other than the fact that Amazon can’t randomly install stuff on it?

Opinion wanted from Philips TV owners

Hi,

I'm looking for opinions from any existing Philips Android TV owners about:

  1. How you find the picture quality
  2. How you find the performance of both Android TV and the TV in general
  3. How you find the general build quality of the TV
  4. Would you recommend a Philips TV to a friend?
  5. How regularly do you receive firmware updates?

I'm thinking of buying the new 50PUS8555/12. There aren't any reviews of this particular TV yet, as it only went on sale a few days ago, but it should be roughly equivalent to the 2019 800 and 900 series (I assume!).

I currently have an nVidia Shield TV (2017) plugged in to a 2014 Sony KDL-50W829B TV. So I want something that will give me a similar Android TV experience, but with upgraded picture quality and less cables!

Ideally I would have liked to get hold of a Philips 50PUS8804, as that could have replaced my current speaker system too (because it has a built-in B+W sound-bar). But alas, that model is discontinued and nowhere seems to have any stock.

So any opinions/advice welcome. Are Philips worth spending my hard earned coin on, or would I be better off saving my money?

I have also considered Sony TVs but am put off by the 49" size and the big ugly stands that they have! The space I have for the TV almost perfectly fits 50" (it couldn't go any larger) and it is quite a high bench, so I'd like to avoid a tall stand where possible.

Thanks in advance

Google Home Speaker Group

Does anyone have any tricks for getting your Android TV to show up as an option for a Google Home Speaker Group?

I had downloaded the Chromecast built-in beta app and had it all working, but then I accidentally deleted it from the speaker group while creating a new household and now I can't get my TV to pop up as an option again. Any ideas?

Need help with Mi Box

I bought a Mi Box 4K around a couple months back and a few days ago, it received a system update. Since then, I am not able to cast any of my android devices or even the laptop onto it. It's connected to the same WiFi as my other devices. I tried uninstalling the updates of the Chromecast service app and updating it again, clearing its cache and data, force stopping it, even reset my Mi Box. But it still doesn't show up when I select cast on my phone. Even the cast icon doesn't show up when I'm playing a video on YouTube on my phone. I even tried using the Google Home app and it doesn't show the Mi Box when I'm trying to add a new device.

It is running Android TV version 9 and the Build says PI.2696 release-keys.

How can I solve this?

Thanks!

Common knowledge? Xiaomi box s

Hi, I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but the xiaomi mibox is reely simple to take apart. And it has an antenna connection on the pcb but no attached antenna.

The "heatsink" is a metal plate mounted in the top "clamshell". I cut a hole in the top plastic and attached a stock Intel cooler (without fan) on the "back side" of the original cooler, now it runs a little bit better during heavy usage 👌
