Google TV Chromecast versus mi Box 4

I know they are similar specs, so Performance should be on par with each other... But based on the few demo videos I've lost of the new Chromecast TV, it looks like the interfaces buttery smooth on it. My mi Box 4 isn't necessarily slow, but I feel like it has become more sluggish and the interface slower. I don't do much other than Plex, YouTube, and sling. Has anyone used both and can comment on performance? I'll probably pick up a Chromecast TV during Black Friday since it will most likely go on sale, but just thought I would ask.

Thanks!

Sony - every few months, all apps lose sound except for Netflix.

Every few months, all apps lose sound except for Netflix. So, then I play with all the audio settings trying to fix it. Nothing works and so I have to reset the entire tv, reinstall and login to all apps again. WTF!

Does anyone have an explaination and/or solution for this? Thanks

Google TV issue with CEC (TV volume control)

Just finished setting up the new Google TV dongle on my Vizio TV (V series). The CEC seems to be semi broken: I can turn the TV on/off using the GTV remove, however, the volume control doesn't work consistently, regardless of the speaker output (TV or soundbar) I'm using. Sometime it works and other times it's fully broken. Does anyone else experience a similar issue?

Just looking for some standalone media player apps....with playlist and nas support

Hello!

Recent purchaser of a sony x900h, loving the tv and androidtv.

For most things anyway.

I have a PC hooked up to the tv, as well as a synology NAS on the same network. The NAS is always on, the PC is on a lot, but not always.

I'm especially looking to be able to just leave the PC off more often than what I've been doing previously.

Yes, I have plex. Not sure if I like it though, I've had it for a while and it's great for what it does...but I want something not for streaming, but for playing my own files, locally.

There are some basic apps built into the device even. Music/Tv/Media, for example. But they are all so basic! They don't seem to support playlists, and you can't even do something like play all files in a folder that includes subfolders. (So for example ify our folder system is music/artist/album if you wanted to play all of the songs from a particular artist, you can't...you have to choose an album.

Drives me nuts.

Plex is ok, I'm not really convinced it's a great way to play filles locally, especially of 4k UHD content especially with lossless audio tracks...which is disappointing, but a main complaint I have with plex is it doesn't seem to support the ability to use conventional playlists such as those generated by foobar and the like.

Obviously with external playlists it needs some tweaking, but that's easy to handle with a quick find/replaceall. But it seems plex just doesn't do this at all. Sigh.

Another minor complaint that I have with all of the media apps that I've found so far, there's not an easy way to use the app in androidtv to play music stored on my NAS, without the tv being turned on. There is the "turn picture off" option, which is fine if you just want to press play and never touch it again...but the moment you use the remote to press pause or skip a track...the tv turns right back on.

That last complaint may just not be an issue in the long run, as I am getting a new receiver in a week that I think supports network play(my current one does but I've never used it as previously I just kept the pc running all day)..so it's possible my goals for music playback might be met by the new receiver...but I kinda doubt it will have playback support...it is something that tends to get skipped over.

Any thoughts? Am I asking for something that's impossible and I just need to keep my PC plugged in all of the time?

Replace Google TV with Android TV on new Chromecast

Is there a way to replace the new Google TV interface with the Android TV interface on the new Chromecast. I don't *hate* the new interface but it was easier to remove stuff I didn't want to deal with on the Android TV interface and Google TV doesn't seem to be nearly as flexible

[REPOSTING from 6 months ago] Can't find Philips Smart TV Voice Control Skill in the Alexa app.

So recently I bought a Philips Ambilight TV, which is compatible with Alexa. TV's set up perfectly, everything's working, updated to latest software. But the problem is that I just can't find the skill for it in the alexa app. I looked up the issue and a lot of people seem to have this problem. I am from Hungary, so I changed my locations all to United Kingdom ones because they say that the skill is only available there for some reason. Still can't find it. Tried the skill's link, enabled it, but on my account it doesn't show up and it doesn't appear on the skills page either (of course I'm using the same account everywhere). Has everything changed or has anyone come up with a fix to this since the other reddit post was written? Literally tried everything I could and still no success. Without the skill I obviously can't control the TV, that would be the whole point of having an Alexa compatible TV but what are we supposed to do when the most important "ingredient" (the skill itself) is missing? Hoping that there is a fix.

Trying to understand audio aspects on Android TV

Hey, I'm Currently using Raspberry PI with LibreELEC with a 5.1 USB Audio card that is connected to 3.5mm 5.1 surround audio system, currently it is setup to use it only as 3.1, and it works Amazing! (Kodi is setup to limit to 3.1 and output using the USB audio card).

But, we are upgrading our TV soon to a bigger one, a 4k one, And I'm really having troubles to understand the mess that is Android TV, it looks like a really dumb operating system, no way to change display resolution, no way to setup audio channels? you can only toggle HDMI passthrough and deal with the results because it's a closed source system that no one can modify... is it really this messy or there are good solutions? I don't want to use HDMI pass-through, I want to tell Android to use 3.1, not 5.1, not 7.1, I don't want to lose rear channels.

Sony XG80 49inch, a little help

Heya fellas,

I have a small problem with this tv, which I, apart from that slight problem, absolutley love. Anyway, for some weird reason my Wifi will disconnect over night! It will never disconnect while in use or turned on. It only happens when i fall asleep and it auto turns off, or sometimes when i turn it off manually, and leave my house. When i come back it just says "wifi is not connected". I then just manually reconnect and everything is fine. It seems to me that, after sometime when screen turns off and tv goes to standby, wifi will disconnect for some unknown reason. I mean, i guess its not supposed to work like that, right?!

Now i tried to do some troubleshooting found on sony forums, i tried factory reaset, but its always the same. My wifi at home is 5ghz, shld i switch to 2.4maybe? The router is like few meters from tv, signal is very good no problems here. But cld this router itself (its ubee one) be a problem? Any other device that i have in house works normally. What to do, what to try? Do you guys have any suggestions? Is there a way to keep wifi always on android tv trough some setting?

Also, a small side question - do you guys think this line of bravias will be updated to andorid 9, or is it pretty much stuck on 8 because of SoC thats inside?

Thanks for any replys in advance, cheers

What controls which "services" appear in AndroidTV's Live Channels app?

First off, I have a Tivo Stream 4k, where I use the "Live Channels" app to stream content from both Pluto and Xumo. I love having both service in one place. I have lots of "tweaks" that I'd like to make to the Live Channels app to make it more user-friendly, but its usable.

Separately, I also have a Sony Bravia X900H, which has its own native "Channels" app. It works similarly, but not identically to, Google's Live Channels app. One program guide, and I can see Pluto and Xumo content in one place.

My question is this...

What controls the content that works within these apps?

Several other services have aggregated streaming/live content that could be integrated. Peacock streams a ton of NBC content. STIRR streams a ton of Sinclair content (no political discussion here please). I'd love for them to all be in once place. I'm not going to open several different apps looking for "background noise" TV or channel surfing. Pluto and Xumo get all of my business there because they are integrated into a common interface. Wondering if these other services will get there at some point.

New Chromecast (2020) - Disney+ with Dolby Vision?

Hi guys,

Just hooked up the new chromecast and am curiously only seeing HDR10 as the format on Disney+ hdr content. Does Disney+ not support DV on this device?

It works fine on the native app (Sony X900H) and Netflix DV works as well on both the native and chromecast app.

Anyone else have this issue or suggestions?

Thanks!

Kodak Android TV - Need TV Manager APK

I got Kodak Android TV 43CA2022 few weeks back and trying for Memory optimize app to kill closed apps and release memory because it takes time to open videos from Hard disk connected via USB 3.0 port (VLC Player).

I extracted the Mi TV Manager APK from Mi Pro android tv (using adb pull command) and tried to install on the Kodak. But it throws error as it require MiTV.API libraries. Any solution on how to install the TV Manager apk along with dependencies? When extracting a API from a TV (using adb pull command), how can I extract all dependent packages?

Is there any other app to clean the memory and boost?
