Just got a sony a90j model upgrade from ag9 and I hate it no longer can I remove Google play TV i can't remove viki either these are just a waste of space I may use viki but I will never use Google play TV how do I get rid of it it doesn't even feel like a sony tv it feels like a Google TV the Google logo permanently in the corner it's just too much

So, this might not be allowed here, but I can't find an active subreddit that I think might be better (except maybe just r/Android?). But anyway, I need to pick up an Android box to be able to stream to for work, replacing an old one that broke. Problem is, Android TV doesn't seem to support the installation of browsers anymore, and the *only* thing I need it to be able to do is run Firefox. Is there anything specific I should be looking for?

I'd rather choose the better OS and the better voice recognition system. It being faster or slower I don't really care.

My MIL just purchased a Philips Smart TV 6900 43", and here trying to install some apps from play store, but they're not found there.

So I loaded up some apk via usb drive and managed to install to the tv, however when I try to open it, it just automatically closes with an error :

^Restricted ^: ^Not ^downloaded ^from ^Play ^Store.

Any advise on how I can override this so that the apps can be installed. im trying to install my country paid tv service application Astro Go

I have a Xiaomi 4k 55'' Android TV. It can't play HEVC files but most of the 4k movies I download are HEVC x265. So is there any way I can play HEVC x265 Movies & TV Shows on my TV ? And I have some other questions also-

-Is there any TV which supports HEVC Codec ?

-How people play 70-80GB Blu-Ray files ? (I am not asking about official Blu-Ray DVD , I am asking about Downloaded Blu-Ray Movies )

So I'm having an issue with the kids profile on the Chromecast with google TV. We setup a kids profile and it seemed easy enough. So after we try to find something the screen keeps showing what looks like a dark profile with greyed out boxes, then cuts back to the kids profile. It does this over, and over and over with no end as far was we can tell. Has anyone had this issue? If so how did you fix it? I would love for the kids to have profiles but this is a big pain in the butt.

I hope someone can help me here. I'm planning on buying a formuler GTV for IPTV. Im going with a mac based service therefore it will only work on that one device endless I pay for another subscription.

I have two TV's. The formuler runs Android TV and my other TV has an Android TV box. There both the Google certified Android TV versions.

My question is, Is it possible to somehow remote into my formuler on my other Android TV pretty much like a remote desktop and somehow make the remote work too ?

I'm open to any suggestions and im willing to buy anything. If it's not possible to get the remote working, I'm wondering if there's any way to somehow get a secondary wifi remote that's connected to my formuler and stays with my other TV.

Every time I try to turn WiFi on with the toggle button in the network settings, it just automatically turns it right off before any networks are visible. Did power cycle, then factory data reset, then hard reset, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

I am looking to set up a new Chromecast with Google TV. My question is around the fact that I have sued different Google accounts. I have 1 account that has all my paid for movies and TV shows from Google Play. My other account has my YouTubeTV account. What is the best way to integrate these 2 accounts for the best experience on the Chromecast with Google TV? I am switching from a Nvidia Shield Pro.

I am trying to get one of these two devices. In my country most streaming devices are not available. Apart from these two there is also mi stick but i know that device is not powerful enough for me.
I play mostly 1080p but 4k wouldnt hurt
I use plex so i want to direct play if possible. About HDR or Dolby Vision, i dont really care much about them so they are not on top of my list. I can live without them.

Which device is a better choice, or what are your experiences? Thank you

My ambilight application works on my TCL android tv on the Home Screen and app menu screens but it doesn’t work when playing a video on Plex.

I understand it won’t work on Netflix etc however Plex is private content that isn’t protected. Is there a setting im missing here?

I connected a bluetooth keyboard on my chromecast android tv, but I've been having a hard time finding a reference for what you can do with the keyboard. Is there a standard keyboard shortcut that let you do the back action for example? My bluetooth keyboard has an 'android' mode and the icons on the top seem to match with their function, but there is no back option on the keyboard itself.

So far with experimentation i've found the top row corresponds with what the icon says, and the windows button goes into a search mode. Arrow keys, the space bar and the enter key seem to do something, and the esc key does something sometimes.

The top row is: home, reduce brightness, increase brightness, search, rewind, play/pause, fast forward, mute, volume -, volume +, screenshot and lock.

Few years back (and perhaps still) it was possible to edit the build.prop on the phone version of android and set the option fw.show_multiuserui=1 which enables multi user support on the phone.
Does anyone know if it Works on Android TV? And if so, should it work on any android tv box that can be rooted or just specific ones?

Did a google search for fw.show_multiuserui=1 and android tv but came up empty handed.
This is the feature that I feel is missing from android tv, to be able to have separate accounts in the operating system and not rely on the apps to implement some user switching system themselves.

I currently have a 4k Firestick and Panasonic 4K HDR/Dolby Vision TV, but the limited storage {constantly get messages about low storage and possible degraded picture quality and am struggling to find apps I want to delete) and Amazon’s constant ads and pushing of their own content is very distracting and the a,lint of data they can and do collect from me is something I want to avoid, so is the Shield TV Pro better in those areas and a kind of device that privacy-enthusiasts should go for?

Plus, the 4K and upscaling streaming quality is, I assume based on reviews and other Reddit threads, very close between both devices so that isn’t the deciding factor for me because I am expecting to not be able to tell a difference picture-quality wise especially for 4K content on streaming services.

So, I am mainly asking in relation to these features as gaming isn’t important to me as I a;ready have an Xbox One S.

Any helpful and objective advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, is it possible to find the remote by scanning for it somehow?

I downloaded nrf connect and I can see some devices when scanning but I have no idea which one is the remote. I live in close proximity with my neighbours so I could be seeing their devices. The remote still had heathy batteries so there's a good chance it's on. Is there a way to look for it using bluetooth? Or maybe a way to confirm that it is still paired to the mibox?

Hello, I'm a bit new to all these streaming boxes, so bear with me. I want to choose a tv box for my parents. Nothing fancy like the Shield TV since they won't game or anything like that. They would like to watch Netflix, HBO Go, YouTube and my idea is to setup LAN streaming with VLC and Plex Media Server so they can stream local video files from PC when away from home. It's mandatory that the device runs Android TV OS. I initially eyed the new Chromecast with Google TV, but what puts me off is that it's not officially supported in my country so they may encounter some crippled functionality (Google TV missing, etc.). I prefer to stay away from Xiaomi devices because of the mixed experiences people have with these. All in all, I would like a device that once setup would require no serious fiddling around (this means no sideloading .apks or any other shenanigans every now and then just to make it work). For now I'm looking at MECOOL KM2 but open to any suggestions (around that price range). I'm located in Eastern Europe. Thanks in advance!

I've been experiencing a strange issue where my Google TV (2020) seemingly turns itself on or just does not turn off.

I sometimes watch Netflix on it with my headphones (Sony WH-1000XM2) and when I am done I turn off both my TV and the Google TV device with each their own remote. When I then continue to use my headphones on my laptop, listening to music, I suddenly get a "Bluetooth connected" prompt through the headphones, indicating that it has reconnected to the Google TV. There are no other devices that it can connect to.

When I turn on the TV again, the Google TV is not "on" but when I then turn it on, with its own remote, it turns on very quickly. So my hunch is that Google TV has some kind of slumber mode and that when you turn it "off" it actually goes to sleep. From time to time it will then handshake with previously paired devices so that if a user turns it on, it can quickly resume what it should be doing without a long cold start. Another reason might be that it does the Bluetooth check for location tracking.

Does that make sense? Has anyone else experienced such Bluetooth "problems"?
