Well running two seperate instances of the same app would be over my head. Maybe someone over at XDA developers has instructions on how to change the package name on the official apk. With Smarttubenext you wouldn't even need the official app anymore, but to each his own.
You can change the name of the installed package of YT, and then Install it again with the original package name.
Android TV 8.0 was good. It also had a task manager and app switcher. Don’t know why android tv 9.0 removed those features.
