Going from A Chromecast/TV to An Nivida Shield Pro

by macneto

I'm currently using the Chromecast/TV as my main way of streaming pretty much everything, Netflix, HBO and my owned Google Movies. I plan on getting rid of the cable box and going all streaming But I think the Chromecast's low Storage Space is not going to work out. I have had a few issues in the past with the device very quickly filling up.

I'm leaning towards the Nivida Shield Pro simply because it has 16 Gb of Storage which should be enough to run Sling TV as well as all the above mentioned apps plus a few more for my kid.

I have a few questions tho, if you guys could take the time.

First, is the on screen UI Similar to Chromecast W/TV? My Wife and 7 year old will be using this the most and they need to be able to use it without calling me every day.

Second, Will my daughter be able to access her owned movies through Google TV? She regularly watches Godzilla and Pokemon movies.

Third, I have a Sonos Sound Bar, can the remote for Shield control the Volume on it as the chromecast remote does?

And lastly is there any other options I should be looking into? Maybe a different box or something? It needs to be relatively easy to use as well once its set up.

Thanks or any info you guys can provide.

You can save a lot by just getting a USB-C Hub and a USB thumb drive and expand the storage of the CCwGTV. Maybe $30 total. The Shield is a lot of device to only be used for a few streaming apps. This is the hub I use. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y6F74F1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm not one to discourage anyone from getting a Shield as I'm a fanboy but unless you think you will branch out to more demanding use cases I can't see everybody needing one.

u won't b disappointed... the extra ports n server come in handy. don't worry about 16gb cuz u can always plug in a external storage n the fact that the ports r USB 3.0 r nice as well. I have a 2TB drive on mine n have it hooked up to Ethernet. my other devices can read my external drive from the Shield Pro which is nice. also yes u can watch Google TV content. it's basically the same device on steroids.

I see this is an AndroidTV, so maybe unwanted comment. If you want SIMPLE , that defines Roku 4k+. I doubt it will control a sound bar.

The Google Home app has a remote option that lets you type on phone or tablet and have it show up on the Android TV device.

As for browser, TV Bro is a nice option that is usable via remote. Others I've tried are awkward or impossible without a mouse and keyboard.
