really wish i went for the nvidia tv shield over the mi tv box s

by I_will_be_wealthy

I got a xaomi mi tv box s, got some roms to work on there with lemuroid. Prtty please with it, got all the customisations I needed on it (over the rubbish roku I used to have).

But one thing I regret is not paying more for the tv shield. When i bought it, i didn't think I was going to play roms on it. But now that I have it, popped in lemuroid and can play snes roms easily. I tried to put psx roms on it and it just didn't like it much. The frame rate was slow.

I dont have a console, I play civ5 on my PC. so not a gamer any more. But I used to play console games when I was younger. So the snes and genesis roms are nice for nostalgia - would have been nice to play psx games.

Does anyone know if a different emulator will play better? I'm in the UK, is PAL/NTSC an issue?

Edit:I'm not happy with the mitv box s. The lag on roms was just a setting tweak and it's fixed. Can play psx roms perfectly fine.

The storage issues have been resolved with a USB hub and a few thumb drives.

Been there, done that!

Trying to save a money i went though a handful of cheap boxes stubbornly refusing to pay the cost of a shield.

A few years down and a few slow buggy boxes later i finally pulled the trigger on an Nvidia Shield.

Annoying thing is i could have got two shields with the money i spent on lesser boxes.

RetroX but you must sideload it.

I had Mi box and moved to Shield Tv. It is just best thing ever.

I have installed Retroarch, Snes9x and ePSXe

I have played Mario and Roadrash. Moreover there is NVidia GeForce now with lot many games. Which also allow you to stream your games from local PC with NVidia card. Another good thing is you can attach a external SSD to increase storage.

This is all together different league with Shield Tv. More than just gaming.

Someone on Reddit reviewed the onn tv box from Walmart and showed it playing many retro games fine (not all). It's $20 vs $200 (not sure the euro price).

Not an emulator per se, but You can checkout GeForce Now service - it has free tier 😊

Just go to Walmart with 20 bucks and get the onn TV box, it's so much better...
