Is it possible for Chromecast to detect external storage connected to TV usb ?

by AsianSensationn

Hey guys ,

I'm planning on watching some of my 4k blu ray rips that's located in my 5TB external hard drive on my Hisense U7G TV. On the Chromecast official support page it states that the Google Chromecast is only able to detect flash drives and SD cards. Does that mean there's no way for Google Chromecast to detect my external hard drive ? Also say if I were to use PLEX or Jellyfin on my Chromecast would these apps be able to detect my external drive if it were connected to the TV USB 3.0 ?

Thanks

If you're talking about the CCwGTV then it is possible to use external storage. Watch ETA Prime's video (5:30 mark for external storage). There are plenty of other videos as well.

I'm not an expert on Plex, but I'm not sure how you'd point your Plex server to a non-network drive. It may be possible, I'll have to defer to others. However, you will be able to read/play files from a drive hooked up directly to your CCwGTV.

Which chromecast are you talking about? External chromecast device or built in Android tv for your TV?

It should read any drive. Plex and Jellyfin are server/client the apps only work when connected to their servers. Kodi or Nova can play from you con ectwd drive.
