Any alternative app for DVB-T2 channels on Android TV?

by ranmakane

Hello, I have a Mecool KT1 with Android TV. I bought it mainly because it has a DVB-T2 tuner so I can use it to watch streaming apps and terrestrial television.

Honestly I thought this device would last only 5-6 months and then I'd throw it into the trash, but it is still working fairly good after about 10 months. It's surprisingly since it is not receiving system updates anymore.

Sure there are little issues here and there, but not particularly big to compromise the good experience. The Live TV app for watching DVB-T2 channels is good, but I'd like to have an alternative app to test if some minor issues could be worked around.

But at the moment it seems the built-in Live TV app is the only one to watch DVB-T2 channels? I tried to search inside the Play Store but only one app (with the same name) seemed to be designed to watch TV channels, but when I install it, it's only showing Pluto TV streaming channels, no DVB-T2 lists.

Do you have any advice?

I heard that other apps must be developed to support the built-in tuner, that's why the "live channels" app (which is slightly better than the "live tv" app) doesn't recognize it, I think it involves something related to an encryption or such, anyway, I also have the KT1 and it has served me good as well, I hope it gets updated to Android 11 or 12 in a not so distant future.

Well you could get a hd homerun and a antenna then get plex and install channel's on there possibly but I'm not sure if this is something you might be interested in. However Plex does have free channels on it so it's worth a check out.
