When you search for a movie or a show on Firestick through voice, it displays relevant results by searching all apps. There are many posts online saying "Searchable apps" function is broken on Android/Google TV and it displays search results only from YouTube and in some cases Netflix. Is this still the case or has it been fixed?
It works better than the firestick. Will never by a firestick again.
Works fine. Like let’s say you search for Avengers Endgame, it’ll show results of where to watch even if u don’t have the App. Same with shows. It doesn’t just show results on YouTube and Netflix. I got results for Hulu, Amazon and Sling.
Yeah, it's still the case. Google does not care about this.
In case of Google TV, the situation's slightly better.
I'm talking about the onn streaming box with andriod TV interface. It has the same interface home screen as the Nvidia Shield no dongle but a small white remote. The search with the remote works well. The little onn box is worth getting. I would recommend it over the firestick and Google TV dongle with chromecast.
In my option they all work to what is built or programmed into them for searching for TV or Movies. They all have there own strengths and weakness when it comes down to it.
Honestly, while I think the firestick is junk hardware wise (and interface wise dear god), both it and Roku blow away the search ability for movies/shows compared to Android/Google TV. Every time I try to search on multiple Android TV's, I get the youtube result and that's it.
I've gotten to the point that I keep the roku app on my phone to find the thing I want, then goto that app individually.
If Amazon would put Twitch back on Roku, I could dump using the Android interface on my tv's.
I have no issue regarding your question using my Nvidia shield and I have both the newer and the first generation one. I do not have the smallest one.

Imo firestick is garbage. Amazon hardware is subpar, sorry. I need to learn to sound more diplomatic. Let me rephrase. Firestick is a good starting point but Chromecast $(40) is light-years ahead in search functionality and all functionality, really. Even a $200 android tv would dance circles around those slow, bloated, obsolete Amazon hardware. Amazon is an online retailer. Not a tech company. They need to know their role and quit releasing inferior crapware. Oops, sorry. Guess I'm not diplomatic.
