YouTube TV doesn't integrate with Sony TV channel list? Live TV struggles...

by smdobrien

New Sony X90K TV, I am going through setup and there is an option to add either antenna/cable channels and also channels from downloaded apps to the TV's channel list (PlutoTV is an option, for example), but YouTube TV is not an option here. Strike 1. Oh well, I guess I just use the YouTube TV application directly then. Works, once you're in the app, but how do I get a one-button shortcut to the YouTube TV app on the Sony TV remote?

On my old Chromecast remote you can customize the "YouTube" button to either take you to the YouTube or YouTube TV app. Doesn't appear this is adjustable on the Sony remote ("YouTube" button only goes to YouTube). Strike 2.

There is a "TV" button on the remote that can be programmed to a specific input source (HDMI1, Antenna, etc.) but this also doesn't give the option to select YouTube TV as the default. Strike 3.

Why is this so hard? I just want to be able to push one button on the remote that takes me to live TV channels (YouTube TV). For an app and an OS both owned by the same company the lack of integration here is puzzling.

I don't have a Sony, but worth a try: Use Button Remapper on the Play Store and reprogram your TV button to take you to YouTube TV

Not sure why your Google TV is not presenting YTTV in the Live TV tab, that's kind of it's main job. These TV makers do what they want with the remote. Google based devices have dedicated or programmable TV buttons that link to YTTV. I don't know what kind of changes Google may have allowed Sony to make to the UI. Hate to always have to say it but using a device instead of the UI on the TV just seems to always be the way to go. I know throwing a $50 device on a high dollar TV like that may seem crazy but it is what it is. Also you could try Button Mapper or TVQuick Actions to see if they will let you remap some of the buttons.
