In most cases is absolutely no reason to update the OS on an Android TV device.. The amount of actual new features added to each version is minimal.
You don't update. The provider of you TV is who provides the updates to newer versions of Android.
But Android is also different from other operating systems in that a big part of it is Google Play services which does get updated automatically for you.
