O2/Google upgrading the existing Linux OS of 350,000 TV boxes to Android TV

Interesting article. It's the first time I have seen vendors to upgrade their old TV boxes directly to Android TV, rather than asking customers to swap boxes.

From Google Translate of the first paragraph of the Czech language site:

"From June, O2 TV customers who use the O2 TV set-top box to watch TV will receive a major and important update. All existing and future purchased devices will only work on the Android TV operating system. It will replace the already unsuitable Linux. This is an upgrade of the largest number of set-top boxes in the history of O2 TV. It will affect more than 350,000 customers."

Sounds like a positive for the people that own this set top box.

BTW, the article is not in English. I do use Chrome so luckily had the translate option. Others might not have the same.

The linked article isn't in English. Not complaining, but as I'm on mobile and not able to (easily) translate it, I figured I'd save you a click.

Android is Linux….or at least a modified kernel version of Linux.

I think Netflix and Prime Video and D+, etc won’t work for drm reasons?
