Hdmi to Rca.

by goobbler

Hello all. Just curious has anyone bought an Android Device that can be connected to a TV that does not have HDMI. It's for older parents, they are not going to upgrade their working large screen TV. Or should I just buy a hdmi to Rca converter box that I see on Amazon, and then plug in a certified Netflix Android box that is listed in this subreddit. Thanks to anyone who does reply.

I have been using my Google tv device on my crt tv with RCA (composite), you will need an HDMI to RCA converter if your parents tv doesn't have an HDMI port

Other than the fact its still working, what makes them keep it? Lets say you manage to find a box that has composite video output, or use one of the HDMI to composite boxes, we are talking rather low quality SD image here, probably with an 4:3 aspect ratio, likely overscanned to some extent out of necessity. That sounds like an abysmal experience to me. Why not upgrade the TV for them?

Many choices on Amazon for HDMI to RCA converter boxes. Cheap, easy and they work.

There are plenty of Chinese boxes out there with composite video/audio out. Just check this before buying. I don't think you are gonna find a certified Android tv device with this feature tho. If you are opting for an adapter, be sure you get an active one. HDMI is a digital signal while composite is an analog one. A passive adaptor ain't gonna work.

Use the converter box (instead of buying an Android box with RCA output).

Better overall solution, as generic Android boxes are usually buggy. The converter boxes are just a dumb device (HDMI to RCA, simple fixed function) so are very reliable. Just make sure it supports HDCP 1.4 at least.
