the YT ads are getting more n more frequent. i feel it's every 5 or 6 minutes now that the ads jump in.
i read that PiHole is not blocking consistently. so is this a hardware problem? or is there an APK to install? strangely, YT plays nonstop on my desktop. i am guessing that's because ublock Origin is doing all the work...

PiHole and other DNS-based blockers can't block ads in YouTube as they are served from the same domains as the videos themselves. The reason things like uBlock origin can is that they have filters that can block individual components of a request based on format of that components full url.
I notice the same thing with YouTube. The chromecast with Google TV went on sale yesterday so I picked one up. Installed SmartTubeNext on it and it works like a charm. I also tried the Onn Android TV box and I know people swear by it but it kept crashing on me. Two different ones. I wish it worked. It seems faster for me than the chromecast plus Android TV seems easier to customize than Google TV.
It would be madness not to mention this.
I pay for YouTube Premium because it has value to me, but I also use SmartTubeNext because it's a superior client.
YT premium is a no-brainer purchase. To get YT Music and ad-free YT together is a bargain.

Youtube cannot exist for free. IDK why everyone thinks it or any other service should be free and keep trying to cheat companies out of money. It is very expensive to run these services.
