Returned my first Walmart Onn 4k TV

by iPhone40

For 20 dollars you get a 4k streaming device but the first one I got had so much problems with HDMI flickering and overheating to the point of rebooting. I wanted to ask, have any of you encountered these issues before? If so, did you make a return?

Maybe a hardware issue? Mine has been working great and getting regular updates.

You got the box right not the stick? My box worked fine, and still is. I love it, was my first foray into Android TV

Edit: Stick not stock

Nope, I have two and they both work great. Probably got a bad one, to be expected in high production item.

I have 4 going strong for about 4-5 months, no issues.

Both of mine are great the 2k and 4K very easy to download proton vpn and tv browser set your location to Netherlands and use websites like moviesjoy.to for free access to all new movies and shows

No problems! I got two and they both work fine. Only issue is what another user mentioned. The control disconnects for about 5 secs and re connects by itself. Really been enjoying it.

Never had a problem … I bought 10 for my family and no problem at all … get another OnnTV .. and if the problem It persists try to change to other hdmi or cable

No, not here once in awhile when I touch the Box it is a little bit warm and being Retired mine is on all day.

I don't have any flickering, and I don't think I've had issues with the box overheating, but I have had the remote refuse to pair on occasion. Usually unplugging the device for 30 seconds allows it to re-pair, so maybe that's an overheating issue.

I don't like the remote, because it's got to be the weakest IR transmitter ever. I have to point it directly at the IR receiver on my TV to get it to work. I tried having the Onn device control the TV Volume, but that was very slow when changing the TV volume.

Edit: I moved my Onn UHD to the ARC enabled HDMI port on my TCL TV, and it seems to be faster with the CEC control of the volume. Of course this could just be the placebo effect. I guess I'll try it there for awhile and see how I like it (Or really if the WAF changes). I still seem to have to use the IR for changing the Input and Power On/Off.

I've had mine for 6 months and it works fine. You probably got a faulty box and just need a replacement.

Both of mine just hang off of the backs of TVs. Maybe natural air flow around the device helps?

I have very little trouble with mine after getting advice from this forum on settings. I use it every day. No heat or performance issues once I dialed in the settings. I had different results on different TVs though.

The Onn box literally has no airflow, it passively cools itself just like a Roku which i hate. So as a fun project, i put my Onn box in a Raspberry Pi case and now it only gets slightly warm to the touch. I was going to solder a Raspberry pi fan to the Onn box motherboard, but it doesnt even need it now since its stays so cool.
