Is it possible with Android 9 on a Hisense to put Google TV on it and replace Android TV?

As the title says, is there any way to replace the entire OS of a smart TV to the new Google TV OS? My Hisense has the Android TV that looks like Google TV but isn't.

I did discover that the only TV hardware related functions needed are Android Apps so they should transfer to the new OS easily. (Input picker is about all I can find that is required, rest I've already disabled)

I really want profiles that's built into Google TV and a few other features (like recommendations from apps instead of the "channels" on the home page) but simply side loading the Google TV Home App and Google App doesn't work fully, even when the original Home app is disabled.

First of all, Google TV is not "another OS". It also runs on Android TV. Google TV's more like a modified interface.

Second; yeah, it's possible.

  • Make sure the "Google app for Android TV" is up to date on your TV
  • Get this version of "Google TV Home" app on your phone or PC (since newer versions require Android TV 10)
  • Disable the Stock launcher (via adb)
  • Install Google TV Home app (also via adb)

Just a suggestion wouldn't getting a Google TV puck and using that be easier? I believe a version 2 is on the way soon though !!

Possible: yes*

*But you would need to feel comfortable recompiling and doing hardware os level work.

If you want the Google TV launcher, I know their are guides on this subreddit
