Just buy a Nvidia Shield
I used mibox for 5 years. they still kinda work but pausing video constantly.
This doesn't meet your USB requirement but i just got a few of the Onn boxes from walmart for $20 and its definitely better than the old miBox.
I upgraded my Mi Box to a (used) Nvidia Shield 2017 for very cheap. Its way faster and can even act as a Plex/Emby server so I don't need to play media individually via VLC. Overall, I'm very happy with it

Xiaomi TV Stick 4K or Fire TV 4K Max
with 100$ buy a used NAS, install plex server and app on Mi Box.
Apple TV 4K + plex and no need for vlc bullshit or USB
