use Netflix without Google play services?

by ooftymcgoofty

In the interest of getting rid of Google banners on my home screen, I need to disable Google play services. The prob with that is with Netflix, which pops up a message saying play services needs to be enabled for Netflix to work. This does not seem to be true, as it works just fine with the exception of the pop up coming up and returning when dismissed. Anyone know a way around this, or a way of disabling those messages? This is on a tivo stream 4k, android 9. Thanks.

Have you considered a 3rd party launcher?

Can you use the mobile website with a browser other than chrome?

Maybe MS edge will trick it into thinking it's chrome.

I had the same experience with the same setup (tivo stream 4k, android 9, google play services disabled since installation).

It happened for both netflix and sling tv.

But it hasn't happened since. I can't remember if it only happened the first time those apps were launched, or if I turned off notifications in something, but it hasn't happened since.

When it did happen, the notification happened upon app launch, I back-arrowed out of it, then it came up once more, I back-arrowed out of it again, then the app worked fine.

Sorry the details aren't on the tip of my brain right now, but there is some way to make it go away.

How is Google play services related to "getting rid of Google Banners on my home screen"???

It's a system app, runs in background, doesn't ask to update (but needs to be updated once in a while)
