Can modern Android TV sticks replace my DuneHD TV-303D?

My current DuneHD TV-303D functions as media player. It supports various formats that I can throw at it. I am going to buy a MeCool KD3 Android TV stick. I know there's a huge cpu speed and ram improvement, but how about media compatibility? If I install VLC in the Android TV stick, does it make the Android playback everything which my Dune support?

No Amlogic based media players will pay the VC-1 video codec.

The Mecool KD3 is a fantastic little device for the majority of users, but the are a few missing items for the video and audiophiles. I love my KD3.
