I keep having an issue where the home button on my remote for my Google TV Chromecast stops working and I have to use the back button repeatedly to leave an app.

Stand alone remote or an app remote?
I've had little luck with the app remote in YouTube for example. My TLC TV with built in Chromecast is far more responsive than my dongle based ones
Yup. I've also had this. Last night it full on stopped working. I had to use the app remote to go in and disconnect the remote and readd it.
One of the buttons on my CCWGTV just stopped working entirely and I was forced to RMA it (i.e. the remote, not the dongle) with Google. If you're still under warranty, that's what I recommend.
If not, and if you're in the USA, then just go to Walmart and buy either the $15 or $20 ONN Android TV dongle/box and use that remote instead. It's based off Google's reference design (which the CCWGTV isn't ), plus it's just designed better and is more durable than Google's. If you go this route, I'd actually just recommend buying the $20 4K ONN and consider using it in lieu of the CCWGTV. I own both and the ONN box has performed far better for me (and many others).
