I’m looking forward to buy an android box for the first time.. I have my eye on Mi Box S. Is it good or are there any other suggestions? Thanks.

And, what are the main differences between Chinese and Global version of Mi Box S?

Edit- Now I think the Chrome-cast With Google TV is the one I should buy. Are there any Cons?

If you're in the US then get the ONN box (not stick) from Walmart. Same performance as CCwGTV at a third the price.

Expertanalystix

MiBox S is not bad but Chromecast with Google TV is better. I have both and the CC has better quality and reliability.

Best bang for your buck is the ONN box from Walmart. Use mine daily and works great.

Mi Box is okay. I have three.

The shield is good, I have the 2015 pro model. Replaced the HDD with an SSD.

Chromecast looks fantastic, I don't have one. Based on complaints, you can't really update the apps or the software because of limited storage space LOL look into that more though, not sure if they have a workaround yet.

I'd recommend buying an old shield, I bought mine for 80 CAD with the controller, remote and shield with a 500 GB HDD. If you go this route, make sure to replace your HDD with an SSD - it's a simple process with a driver cloner and hugely beneficial.

Do you know if you have other choices in your country. Mi Box-S is kind of old at this point. Not something I would buy as a new device.

It's really about the specs that matter to you. Questions to decide a priority on:

  • Are you just streaming, or do you want to do local files or gaming?
  • Does longer term support matter?
  • Does Google Play/Netflix/Prime support matter?
  • Does HW AV1 support matter? (Need an S905x4 SoC or similar)
  • Do you care about ethernet?
  • Do you care about 4k/upscale?
  • Does it have enough built in storage or expandable support?
  • Does it have USB ports?
  • Can any missing features be fixed with adding external devices? (Remember adding a hub usually means buying a new power adapter)

If the CCwGTV is your winner, there are split-out USC-c cakes that just add a USB port for storage if you don't care about adding other devices or ethernet. Adding a flash drive to that wouldn't require a new power adapter. Some hubs can get away with it, but most recommend a stronger adapter if you start to actually use the hub.

If going Xiaomi, you'd want the Mi TV stick 4k v2, as it's the newest, but it's also expansion limited.

Get the Mi Stick 4K If you do not need the usb port

Honestly, if you can afford it, the Shield TV is the best overall experience. Nvidia supports the hell out of the device with consistent software and security updates. It also has the CPU and storage capacity that should give the device a relatively long shelf life.

If you can’t afford the $150+ on a Shield, the Chromecast with Google TV would be my pick. The only hesitation I have about that device is storage issues have been a consistent issue that users face. 8GB of storage just simply isn’t enough and workarounds to expand storage can be costly and inconsistent. The processor also is pretty weak, though still useable.

Google Tv better option than mi box s. But if you want a android tv device, you must look new android tv sticks

The MI Box sucks. I have it. I ended up buying NVidia Shield TV and Pro and running them Alongside and yes, the MiBox can do some things but not that well.

t1000i

I use a Chromecast with Google tv connected to a usb c hub with ethernet with 200gb usb stick & works really good no buffer

BenafflecksanokAct0r

just so you know, Mi Box S/Mi Box is from 2016. Get a Realme Google TV Stick 4K

kingzeno

If you only use Netflix and YouTube it works. Otherwise reccomend a Shield. Mi box does only "most" media server content, depending on video or just audio bitrate. Also have a pi4 but as a server, 1080p only slightly better, no 4k.

Erez-C137

Nvidia shield tv, anything else is a waste of time imo.
