Is there a way to use a android smartphone as a wireless keyboard and mouse for android tv?

by nealhamiltonjr

I'm trying to find a way to use my phone as a mouse / keyboard for my cheap android tv box without having to buy a physical keyboard. I just need to type in long urls and stuff like that instead of using the dame remote. I see apps in the store for using the phone as a remote to control it like the standard remote but not to use as a keyboard mouse at the system level. Thanks!

I'm using a cheap onn walmart android box if it matters.

You can use the remote in the Google Home app, the Google TV app, or the quick panel remote on your android device for a keyboard. It doesn't have mouse control though - it has swipe and dpad control.

This doesn't help you with an Onn, but people who are reading this with Shield TVs can get trackpad mouse control through the Shield TV app.

The default Android home app works for me. If you goto a url or search box, the app automatically opens a keyboard.

I usually use that. I acess the smart devices from the power menu. I have my lights and tv listed in it. I guess you'll have to add your device to your Google home first an dbe connected to the same wifi/router.

Just recently I published my App that does exactly that. You don't need to install anything on your TV box. You just need to have USB debugging running, it is on by default on some devices.
