Trying to replace my TCL tv that the LEDs died in. In 2022 is it worth purchasing Android TV or upgrade to Google TV? I've heard some downsides of Google TV being laggy, but currently I don't know the difference between the two or if they'd be merged together at some point.
Don't buy a TV with Google/Android TV converged into the device. Buy a good panel with minimal smart features and don't plug it into the internet and never let it get updated. Focus on video panel quality only.
Use it exclusively to switch inputs and other dumb TV features.
Plug in a Google TV or Android TV device to one of the inputs and use that as your primary TV interface. When that fails and/or can't get software updates, you can replace the device and not the whole TV.
