Android 12 TV should start appearing early 2022

Android 12 developer preview for Android TV

The Android 12 developer preview is available for the ADT-3.

Android 12 is available as a developer previe w on the ADT-3 developer kit ; the Android 12 developer preview for TV will be installed automatically through an OTA, or you can install the latest image manually.

Alternatively, you can use the Android Emulator for TV which allows you to try out these and other new user interface capabilities like window blurs .

Android 12 will begin appearing on TVs early this year **,** so now is the time to begin evaluating your app for compatibility.

Outdated info. ATV 12 for the ADT-3 has been available in final release for months.

WTF?! The final ATV 12 release was announced in 2021, November 30, with images for ADT-3 available on that date. No progress for other devices since then.

On a $300 NVidia Shield, a single TV that's only available in a size you don't want, 1000 underpowered and uncertified streaming boxes, 2 certified but still underpowered boxes and eventually a Chromecast that will like have the same underpowered CPU as the uncertified streaming boxes.

Point being, unless they get some good first party hardware for it (not just a Chromecast), why should we care?

If anyone actually owns an ADT-3 and has updated it to Android TV 12, I'd be interested in reading a mini-review. Does it run faster, slower, or the same as 11 or 10?

The Onn. 4K is a re-branded ADT-3 so imagine if Onn were to push Android 12 to us at some point as well. That would make for an even more impressive value.
