I don't have permission to paste files into my Shield 2019 tube. What file explorer to use/permissions to enable?

I'm trying to paste my Kodi profile/user data into my newly acquired Shield tube. However it tells me I don't have permission - I'm running 9.0.1/Android 11. I used ES File Explorer (I know its total spam), it has a straight forward FTP set up that I can access from windows file explorer and paste the Kodi User Data but it won't allow me (Android>Data>.

I was easily able to pull the data from my previous Android TV (I believe running android 9). I'm guessing the new updates tightened up permissions/security?

Only the app that 'owns' the folder can write to it. This was a pita for me too. Install the kodi backup tool from the kodi repository. It will have permission to write the files.
