Honestly I wouldn't mess with it. That's like somebody saying I can paint your car but it might not run right afterwards. Just isn't worth it. But that's just my opinion. :-)

Yes you can.

Disable the default launcher, then sideload the latest version of "Google TV Home" & "Google app for Android TV" (all via adb) and you're good to go.

You cant. You can just download the launcher but the rest, like Settings or Google Assistant will look the same.

I have 2 different ATV boxes Mecool KM8 (not the Russian Version) and my long time trooper x96 905W

KM8 still runs official OS from Mecool with Androidtv os 9. While x96 runs on unofficial ATV 9 Soldiaz 2.0

I also happens to own the very first Google TV Revue from Logitech.

I was messing around a bit with some old firmware update as the box it self would not get beyond the install menu bc Logitech dropped support.

So within this firmware I was able to extract all old Apks that came with it. Was especially interested in getting a signed Netflix version to run.

So from trying all of them, only a few would still run considering they were based on Honeycomb quiet impressive.

Nevertheless the launcher would install and obviously make the trick as google will recognize this old Apk and update it to the official googleTV APK.

Besides that I also installed all the HID and remote controller apks from Logitech which helped to support pretty much any Bluetooth remote out of the box without any further drivers etc.

Regards Netflix I can say it wouldn't install the original APK but the Netflix Folder's APK (still don't know why they called it folders then) but it's actually the Netflix service APK, so I have a well running Netflix on my x96 without Wideline L1 but can't run Netflix older than 4.16. on Mecool witch has Wideline L1. An issue I'm still struggling to fix

Anyways long talk, you can install Google TV launcher without root and make it work Next to original ATV launcher. Just try finding the old Logitech Revue Firmware, extract the apks and installed them on your ATV boxes

I can't upload a picture of the OS to show it to you , but happy to share if needed
