Did anybody else lose YouTube Speed controls in the Google TV YouTube app?
EDIT: It has been restored on Chromecast + Google TV for me, it is now in a settings cog menu.

There's a google thread complaining about this now, and it seems most people haven't had the feature return to their devices, if the growing number of complaints is anything to judge by.
If, like me, this annoys you to no end, maybe take a moment to go to this page , to give feedback requesting the feature again. Under the feedback type drop down menu, scroll down to "Feature request - want to control playback speed" and submit the request. Maybe that'll get the message through...here's to hoping!
Is it coming back for other people too? Mine's still missing, used it like 10 hours ago
Use smarttubenext
Yes! Already missing them.
youtube app was updated today(20220208 > 20220301) speed controll is comeback!
Speed control disappeared on my Sony Google TV today, was working fine a few hours ago. Cannot cope without it.
yes same. i miss it terribly, i contacted everyone to fix, both Youtube and Sony TV!! i confirm this is a youtube bug, not Sony TV or samsung's, as i have the latest sony version and even reset to factory, the button is still missing. Youtube directed feedback but no reply so far, very bad customer experience. fingers cross it comes back ASAP!!!
Wth I save so much time watching podcasts and tutorials
My Sony TV doesn't have it but I just opened on PS5 and it's still there. I hope they fix it soon.
Are they forcing us to watch videos at normal speed for some reason?
Update - I'm seeing it come back now. Sucks that YouTube never made any announcement, but hopefully it stays working anyway.
Mine is not fixed yet on Android TV, God fucking hell this is so frustrating to watch videos at normal speed!!
Was there an update? If not they must have turned it off server side.
Hope they restore it ASAP
Yep, missing on nvidia shield too. I've filed a report with https://www.youtube.com/tv/feedback
Yes!! This happened to me, too. It was working a few hours ago, too. I hope they fix it right away, I use that feature every day
me too! Speed control disappeared on my Samsung Google TV . what happend to the youtube app? i hope to a quick fix. plz..
Yeah, it's gone. What's up with that?
Can confirm missing from Chromecast with Google TV YouTube app as well. What's worse is the app saved my previous speed settings and I cannot change it back to normal now....WTAF!
Still missing on version web_20220302_10_RC00.
Yes. YouTube speed control has been removed on my android TV app, and there are no updates available to me. It's incredibly frustrating to the point I've reduced my watching time and completed the feedback form.
A big FU to YouTube for removing this feature.
Guys any update on the fix? Really miss the feature :/ can't stand dragging through videos in normal speeds
There is a support thread tracking the issue about not being able to manage playback speed using apps on devices other than Android (and only if not casting) at https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/153199802 . I suggest following it for updates.
To get action on this, go to YouTube and submit feedback describing the issue and how it impacts your desire to use YouTube.
My use is down 50% because of this issue. How about you?
If you don’t know where the feedback option is, please see my blog post about this issue.
Here’s a workaround I posted to another thread: https://reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/t5e851/_/hzkio7g/?context=1
Glad it’s back for some for others this worked for me. Hope it helps.
yes
It came back today for me! Hopefully this time it's to stay.
Still missing on my TCL Google TV R646 :((
Hi guys, still missing on my MIBOX4. this is so frustrating. :(
I have 2 Nvidia Shield TV's - one is a 2017 and the other is a 2019. They are both running the YouTube app version 2.16.03. The 2019 has the speed control option but the 2017 does not.
anyone knows if it's gonna be back? is there any official statement from google?
It's back on my CGwGTV but not yet on my Shield TV.
I believe this was by design and their help forum only exists to make it seem like this is being worked on until everyone forgets about it. This is the protocol for all online platforms now. Make a change that will be hated, wait for people to accept it, and only remove it if profits suffer, not the customer.
Why I think this was done on purpose:
It's been in effect for over 2 months now and literally it would take a click of a button to bring it back
It happened to the Android Shield media player and smart tv apps on the exact same day (I know this because I was willing to stop using my Shield if the Youtube tv app still had playback speed adjusting. It did not.)
Do not hold onto hope that this will come back anytime. Ask yourself these questions and come to your own conclusion:
Would someone watch Youtube longer if there was no ability to increase playback speed? Maybe they would simply watch less videos in the same amount of time or maybe they'd watch all their normal subscription content and stay on the platform longer.
Does removing playback speed reduce bandwidth usage on Youtube's server?
Would the kind of person who watches Youtube on hyper-speed really let Youtube's ads play at normal speed in the middle of faster video segments? Or would that normal speed ad content stick out like a sore thumb and cause users to want to skip the ad even more?
Profits guys, profits. If the last 2 years have taught you just 1 thing, it should be that what you want doesn't actually matter unless it just so happens to coincide with what is profitable. Every. Time.
So here's 2 solutions to the problem that work as of today:
Amazon media streaming devices such as the firestick and firecube still have this function. It is what I'm using everyday, although I would never recommend either of these devices to anyone.
Stream from your Youtube app on your phone directly to your smart TV. Most smart TV's can do this easily. In your Youtube app the icon looks like a TV with a WiFi symbol in front of it.
Why is this happening to me on switch
As of 5/16, speed control has disappeared from Roku completely. Obviously, somebody finds issue with people speeding through videos. Many creators have great content, they're just too slow at presenting it.
I am screaming angry at this apparently deliberate rug pull on an extremely useful/important feature to 1.5x-2x speed up to get through slow low-value added content providers long content. I digest special interest news and info in rapidly evolving technology areas and can't go at 1x default speeds to waste 45 minutes of real time to hear 3 minutes of essential factual info. The info space is hyper accelerating and we all need faster info delivery. I am paying for premium services and want to be able to get high speed playback of content to find the golden info hidden in the chaff of spam chatter and slow social dialog.
Youtube works fine with all the speed options on Android apps. It has clearly been disabled on the ROKU Apps to get higher watch metric time stats for the advertising merchants stealing everyone's spare time with adverts that many skip through as fast as possible.
Give us a damn opt out option on this BS. Time is the most precious commodity on the planet for mortal beings.
I am only having this very irritating problem on the Roku channel app for You Tube. Speed control had been working for years but suddenly stopped working - all speed control options just disappeared from options. It still so far works fine on Android app so I may have an inconvenient workaround to cast my smartphone app to the TV Display around the ridiculous Roku YouTube app.
Is there anyway to revert back to a prior Roku Channel App version of YouTube? Extremely annoying to try to find the few good nuggets of high tech info in channel content providers talking slow and wasting precious time sans an ability to speed through fluff social banter.
I suspect this is all part of the new global ESG vector (environment, social, governance) to tether the masses to the oligarchs' and NGO'S really controlling content space messaging and revenue streams will and dependency.
At my TV the playback speed change option is still missing. How can I get it back?
any update on this matter, its been months now, why isn't this fix if YouTube know about it
Switched to a Directv stream today from an Nvidia shield and I want to flip a table because playback speed controls are not present on the YouTube app. So frustrating. Submitted feedback immediately.
What is speed control
To whoever decided to remove playback speed option: FU and stay away from any software design decisions.
Yes. I want it back!
