Nvidia Shield Pro looks awful - rPi4 (w/Lineage) better?

by xblade724

I was reading reviews for Nvidia Shield. Solid specs, but has all kinds of issues (and ads on the homepage).

I was watching this vid regarding Raspberry Pi 4 as an Android box (which even has native IR that Shield ridiculously doesn't even offer):

Probably no HDR support, though (haven't researched far).... but 4k.

Thoughts of Shield vs rPi4 for Android TV?

Is there anything better than Shield?

The Shield doesn't have ads on the front page, Android TV does.

What issues are you seeing for the Shield? I would imagine going the rPi route is going to run you in to much more problems than the Shield.

The AndroidTV images for Raspberry Pi are basically development images, not as a replacement for Officially Certified AndroidTV devices. The biggest drawback for those Pi images is that they lack HW-decoding (H.265/H.264) and DRM certificates to be a viable replacement for certified devices.

too much lag on rpi4 much snappier on shield TV even 2015

I sideloaded a new launcher on mind when I had an "upgrade" that suddenly included ads. I'll check later but I think it's called Flauncher. If you search there are other alternatives and YT videos

An useless thing in my opinion.
