GoogleTV: Recommendations

by Tarpii

Really not impressed with the recommendations shown on my home screen. Is there anyway to improve these?

At the moment I can see recommendations for The Walking Dead on Disney+ (not available in my region, UK)

Also this is a family TV and I don't want adult content like walking dead or Deadpool 2 shown on my homescreen.

Any tips to clean it up a little?

In Settings, go to Accounts & Sign In , select your account, and scroll to the bottom. There, you can turn on Apps only mode .

On Android TV and Google TV there is a section where you can specify what shows/Film you like and don't like

I only offer up the following because I seem to be getting the type of results you're hoping for. My bottom-line upfront is: actively use AndroidTV's features to rate, watchlist, and purchase content.

Not sure if I'm an anomaly, but my recommendations are shockingly spot-on. I have extremely niche tastes (e.g. 70s-80s Italian exploitation cinema, silent Expressionist German films, etc.) and Google consistently provides high-quality recommendations.

What I've done is rate a ton of movies on Google. I believe I started this when I first got my CCWGTV about a year ago. I also have ~25 films I've purchased from PlayMovies. I actively use AndroidTV's feature to "Watchlist" movies as well as "Wishlist" films to buy on GooglePlay. I'll speculate here a bit too--since AndroidTV allows you track your viewing history across various channels, it might be able to access your watch history and maybe even your personal queues in various apps. I suspect this is the case because it often "recommends" videos I've tagged in Prime Video. Anyway, I believe this is turned on by default--if not, try it.

Again, my ultimate advice is to just fully use the AndroidTV's options as it pertains to interacting with a specific piece of media. The more it learns about what you're into, the better it seems to be offering solid recommendations.
