OTT Android tv box

by Arun0117

Hey everyone, just received an OTT Android tv box t8 pro with Android 5.1, I was wondering if there's any rom out there that I can flash to upgrade the Android os. It was laying around at my uncle's house and instead of junking it I wanted to see if there's a way to give it new life since I'm not in the market of spending money on a new one. I've flashed roms on Samsung devices many times before but it's hard finding a rom for this tv box. The brand looks Chinese so is it possible to flash a rom from a different company possibly with a higher Android without bricking it. Thanks in advance.

Those boxes are cheap for a reason. I've used 8 in the last couple of years (including setting u p for relatives) and I can tell you they never get upgraded ever. ZERO software support. Only once did one of the device receive an update (like 2 months after release) because of a very crippling bug.

What I can tell you is that most apps will still work on Android 5. So, just install what you need. Potential security risks on a TV box is not what I would classify as something to be afraid of. Just use a throwaway account and install the apps you need. :)

Do get an airmouse though! Those TV boxes are boxes with the phone OS baked in and the navigation is somewhat tedious without one. Install a custom launcher also :)

It's not a certified android TV box. Throwing it away is the only thing that can be done.

It's amlogic s812 - ancient and short-lived chip, there wasn't much custom development for it, and Android 5.1 is the highest it can go. Congratulations, you own a piece of history.
