PSA for Onn 4K users: How to fix the low default volume after setting it up for the first time!

by foundfootagefan

I'm sure most people know about this since many of you are Android TV diehards but I thought I would make a post about it.

The issue: The Onn 4K box has an internal Android UI volume that is set at 50% when you first set it up, causing people to wonder why their TV sounds half as loud as it should be when playing content from the Onn 4K box.

The solution:

  • Go to Settings > Set up remote buttons.

  • Go to Volume Control (under Remote buttons) and make sure it is set to auto instead of controlling your TV or other device.

  • Press the volume rocker on the remote control and raise the volume to 100% as shown on the onscreen volume display appearing on your screen as you raise the volume. Your Onn 4K box has an internal volume control and it was 50% by default and now you have 100% volume. Your Onn 4K box should now sound as loud as your other devices!

  • Make sure to set Volume Control back from Auto to your TV or other device so your volume rocker controls that device again.

This puzzled me for half an hour until I figured it out when I got this box last month so I thought I would help others with this post.

Just discovered today that the AndroidTV "Remote" QuickSettings widget that can be used in your Android phone to control your TV box can adjust the Android system volume independently of the physical remote controlling the TV volume.

Haven't checked if the 'media' volume is set at a different level than the 'system' volume while actually streaming a movie/show, cause Android can have multiple levels of volume for different tasks, like Bluetooth audio volume usually by default being quieter than regular media volume.

I ran into this, and what I did was use the Google Assistant button on the remote and just said "max volume" (if I'm remembering right).

It increased the internal volume and didn't mess w/ my TV's, which still worked with the remote.

Can also use the remote app on your phone

Does anyone's onn 4k box just stop working after a day or two? I'm constantly having to unplug it because it simply won't turn back on if it's been sitting for about two days.

I know this is an old post, but thank you for the fix.

I would like to add one important step before you tell Google Assistance, Max Volume. Turn your remote volume down first.

Whoa, this here dummy didn't do that and I had Pandora playing in the background. About blew me out of my chair.

This didn't work for me unfortunately. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
