Xiaomi Mi Box S 4K VS Gcwgtv

by godisanal

Hi guys,

I browsed the web but couldn't find a clear answer:
Does the Google Chromecast with GoogleTV runs Kodi better&smoother than the Mi box I use currently?
The Mi box works fine but I notice sometimes it's a bit slow and laggy with Kodi. Thinking about 'upgrading' to the newest GoogleTV device.

Thanks

If you are in America, you could get the $20 4K Onn box from Walmart that is equal to the Chromecast, but with a much better remote.

yes the ccwgtv is way faster in general

Do you use Auto-Refresh-Rate switching in Kodi with your MiBox?

The Chromecast-GTV does not have that feature. AFAIK that feature can be used with MiBox.

If Kodi can navigate faster on the Chromecast-GTV, but stutters because it can't match frame rate of video files, then in my opinion the MiBox is a better device for Kodi even if it takes longer to load and navigate.

Are you trying to use Kodi as it's intended to be used such as to watch media that you own and have on the server or do you mean Cody is running slow using add-ons such as third-party add-ons to watch content you Don't own if you're trying to watch content you don't own on third-party add-ons then Cody will always have issues being laggy or not running as well depending on whether the developers update their add-ons or if you update your Kodi so on and so forth. I've been using Kodi since it was XMBC on the Xbox and there's always ups and downs, for the most part Cody always works which is the advantage. I have an Nvidia shield Pro which I run my Plex server on and is on my main TV I have a Google Chromecast TV which I bought and is oddly my least favorite, I have a mi box original 4K not the s version which I really liked but have since retired to be an optical audio streamer/dac for my Kef LSW and I ended up buying a bunch of cheap ONN Walmart Android boxes for the bedroom TVs and backyard projector which all the cheap ONN boxes ($20) run Kodi, syncler, tivimate and HBO Max apps perfectly well and with as much lag as any other box. Kodi just b slow as fuck sometimes the moral of the story.

Download APKTime and use it to install BeeTV, FilmPlus or others.
Native android apps work faster than Kodi, there's less overhead.

I used both. Both run basically the same in terms of performance and stability.

I gave the Mi Box S to my parents, they are happy with it (I even connected a Logitech webcam to chat with them via Google Duo), now I'm using CCWGTV.

However, Mi Box S has a built-in AFR (Auto-Framerate) function, there is no one in CCWGTV.

Mi Box S has a global voice search option through the content in all the installed apps (even not so legal ones).

CCWGTV, on the other hand, has better recommendations and aggregation of paid content.

So, If you would like to watch movies smoothly (without judder effect) and plan to watch pirated content, Mi Box S is a great choice for you.

Otherwise, if your TV has its own "motion smoothing" effect and you would like to watch Netflix, Disney+, Google Movies, and other subscription services, CCWGTV is your choice.

P.S. regarding ports, Mi Box S has USB-A, HDMI and combined TOSLINK (SPDIF) + Audio Mini jack. CCWGTV has only USB-C. Both TV Boxes support USB hubs. I prefer UGREEN ones - great quality for the money.

P.S.S. I recommend using Vimu as your media player app.

Kodi sucks. like it is awful. I don't understand how people use it.

I would switch to Plex or Jellyfin.

absolutely miles better than Kodi and they run well on a Mi Box and Google TV as I have both.
