Google TV suggesting content from services I don't have

by tendonut

Long time Chromecaster, first time with Google TV as of today.

So the suggested content is MOSTLY for services I actually use, plus the Tubi/PlutoTV stuff that Google has partnered with. But I keep seeing suggestions for Hulu/Peacock shows periodically, even though I don't have either of those apps on the device, nor any other Google device I am aware of.

Both of those apps, along with a handful of others, are listed in the "Apps > Apps from my other devices" section, and I have no idea why and I think that is a clue.

I'm trying to clean up this interface without switching to App-Only mode, since I DO want Google to work it's suggestion magic, but only for shit I already pay for.

Those are paid ads. They want you to subscribe

Not a bug -- that's the intended behavior.

I'm using apps only with JustWatch which is OK. It's still an android device that you can install apps on.

Not with that attitude.

I have 4 steaming services. Yet Google still suggest 80% movies that I can only buy at Google play. Often not even good movies as I guess thy have a hard time finding out what is unique for them after subtracting Apple, Disney's, prime, and Netflix content.

I believe the 'magic' is getting users to order more services or rentals through Google.

Magical for Google, for users - not so much.

Better to use an alternate launcher and things like JustWatch or Trakt with an app for suggestions imo.

If it is connected to your google account you should be able to search for a movie on any other device (phone or computer) and click on "All Watch Options" > "EDIT SERVICES" and then you can select/de-select which services you have. See album for details https://imgur.com/a/e47tlDx

Ignore Hulu/peacock shows

Use alternative launcher and don't look back. I'm pretty happy with F Launcher. It is dead simple, but I prefer like that. Clean and customizable.
