I had something similar happen to me in various apps. The cause was that I had the Shield resolution set to 4k and my Shield plugged in to my AVR, which does not support 4k. If I watched any non-4k content it would randomly black out for a second. The fix was to set my resolution to 1080p or plug my Shield directly in to my 4k TV (which I ended up doing as I couldn't stand watching everything in 1080p).
I had similar weird HDMI handshake issues until I upgraded to 8k cables. Everything's better now with cable capabilities overkill.
Had same issue… but I’ve noticed if you have the ESPN/Hulu/Disney package - If you open a game through Hulu as opposed to the ESPN app, it works fine on my Hisense.
I've got this exact issue with a hisense TV. So far my work around is to cast from the espn app on my phone rather than use the espn app on the TV. I don't have the issue with any other apps. Please post back if you find any solutions. I'll do the same.
