Bye Bye Android TV (for the most part)

by Goodspike

The decision of Google to end the legacy remote app was the last straw. At first I got by rolling back remote services on my streaming device, but after the latest Android 12 updated to my phone the legacy Android remote app started repeatedly freezing, forcing rebooting my phone. Very annoying, to say the least.

So, I'm moving to a Fire Cube device, which has a fairly fast processor, apparently faster than any Ruko device, FWTIW. I have a Fire 4k stick in my travel trailer and my Android TV device will move there so that I can bring the Amazon remote home for use as a second remote on my new Cube device. I've been perfectly happy with the Fire stick, so I assume the Cube will be better given the stronger processor. Also, although the Cube does not have WiFi 6, it has Ethernet which will allow me a better connection. Finally, it is on sale right now with an extra 5% off if I use an Amazon branded credit card.

huh I don't get it, you ditched Android TV because the older remote app got replaced with the infinitely superior one in the google TV app?? why not just use that instead of the terrible old one

mindoversoul

You left because they redesigned an app you don't have to use and replaced it with a better one?

Alright. You do you, my friend.

???why dont you just use the new remote app

Bye bye 👋 Won't miss you...

But fr: I don't get what you want you're trying to accomplish with this post. The devs won't magically reinstate the old app and the new app seems much better.

Ok

There is a remote app? Seems kind of cumbersome pulling out my phone to use my TV. Why not just use a normal remote? I just bought a universal remote off Amazon so I can control my sound system, pc, and tv all with one remote.

Google home app has the remote now

The new remote works fine for me. Sounds like a software glitch issue. 🤔

Can someone provide a link for the new app please?
