Its because the Mi 4X only hits about 350 nits peak brightness which isn't good enough for decent HDR performance. For good HDR you need more than double that. Being a hardware limitation there is no native fix for it.
Real HDR is always darker, also Dolby Vision, just turn up something like Video Contrast (i have a philips oled tv so dont know what its called on other tv’s)

I just turned off the HDR. happened across multiple devices with Disney Plus on my TV.
