I have mine on Ethernet. My ISP speeds are 300DL/30UL. I get 280/30 on avg without VPN on the Shield. With VPN it can’t manage to keep speeds. Drops to 40-50 DL /20-25UL. I don’t know why the download is so screwed up. And this is with multiple services. I have tried WireGuard protocol for the services that provide it and it’s marginally better. It’s gets worse when you switch to a server in a far off location to access geoblocked content. I was on a server in India using Nord and only getting 3Mbps. On phone/ PC the speeds with all these services are no where close to as bad.
Using ethernet connection my 250Mbps DL becomes around 150Mbps over VPN. This is more than enough for 4K steaming. This speed can change based on selected server and country but it never causes an issue. The shield can receive 1Gbps over ethernet so your bandwidth will be limited by your internet connection and your VPN. Any good VPN service should be able to hit 50%-60% of your available bandwidth in my experience. With a gigabit connection your VPN connection shouldn’t restrict what you can stream on the device. You’ll have more than enough bandwidth.
