Best device for circa £50

Hi All,

I’m getting frustrated with my ageing fire stick 4k. It’s rather sluggish through the menus and regularly hangs.

I’m wondering what he community recommends in regards to a streaming stick upgrade. It needs to be able to handle 4k x265 streams from the plex server.

I’m wanting nvidia shield performance but understand it may not be possible, is there anything in this price band that comes close to the performance?

So far I’ve briefly looked at the mi box s and chromecast with Google tv. I’m also considering rooting and then customising the fire stick but I’m unsure of how much of an improvement to expect.

Apologies for the vague post, I’m trying to decide the best course from the three options,

1-tweak the current fire stick (will it really improve things much?)

2- mid range device

3- just bite the bullet and go for a shield tv.

Any and all input is appreciated and welcome

Chromecast with Google TV is on sale for £45 in the UK at the moment.

Chromecast can handle 4k x255 direct play from plex server. Prob most easy to recommend in Europe

the CC is good for that, but since it doesn't support auto frame rate switching it's only good if you watch one type of content (movies are always 24fps).

If you plan on watching mixed content (30, 50, 60fps), like IPTV, then I'd go for a mi box instead.

You cod get the Fire Cube which isn't slow and would be easy to sync up with everything and it comes with Alexa I think
