I just threw some pictures into a google photo account and it works great
Install a file manager like X-plore file manager. Kodi will also work for pictures.
For years I've used Photo Gallery and Screensaver, from the play store. It's very customizable. You can choose many photo sources, including G-photo albums. I highly recommend it.
How about casting from a phone?
Whats the purpose? If you want it as a screensaver, PhotoGuru works nicely, and also have multitude of cloud sources options (although, annoyingly, you pay to enable them). It is also going to work if you just wanna show pics to others, but then you have many many additional options. If the purpose is running a presentation, do consider casting "Google slides" from your phone instead, thought. Gives you way more flexibility presenting than a set of fixed pics.
